Default Hunter off the grid, looking for a contact near Farson Wyoming

Friend is doing a solo Elk Hunt about 30 miles northeast of Farson Wyoming, near the Sweetwater River at the south end of the Wind River Mountain Range.

Loaned him a Spot Locator. Tuesday got an "I'm OK" message that puts him in the parking area at the trailhead.

Agreement was he would send an "I'm OK" message each morning and each evening and that if we didn't hear from him for two days I would assume there is something wrong.

While my thoughts are he is fine, just technical difficulties, he is in his early 60's and stuff happens. My thoughts are that I would rather send somebody in or go there myself to find him doing fine, then to not show and there's a problem.

Looking for either a guide to hire or an individual to compensate to check on him. I can provide all the grid coordinates and location of the parking lot. It's only a two mile hike from the parking lot to his base camp.

Will talk it over with his wife tomorrow, but unless I can find somebody locally tomorrow, unless I hear from him I will most likely be boarding a plane late tomorrow or Saturday.

If anybody has a contact in the area that might be able to assist I would apprecitate the information.

I got up early this morning so I could start figuring out what I was going to do. Opened up my e-mail and was quite relieved to see...

GPS location Date/Time:09/17/2010 07:03:12 CDT

Message:Everything is OK

Feel silly for worrying, but on the other hand I would hate for him to be in a bad way, relying on me to follow through, and I don't.

Am going to kick him in the A$$ when he gets back for making me worry.

Much better to take action and find out it's not needed than to pretend nothing's wrong and live with the consequences.

Don't feel silly. You're good to be concerned. Perhaps your friend just forgot to do the routine. Easy to do if you've never had the system before.
