Default World record striper

Not on the fly, but right here in Connecticut waters.

Wow!. There have been some monsters this year, earlier in June Pete Vican caught a 74+ lb bass off of Block Island on a live eel, but this latest one is incredible--

Hey Rip,

Last I heard he decided to withdraw the fish. He claims he didn't want all the grief that goes with breaking the striper record. I don't particularly buy this story since a new record striper is worth millions in endorsments and freebees. I read that it was also withdrawn from the tournament he was fishing in at the time it was supposedly caught. Awesome fish but fishy story...

Weighed in at 81.88 pounds on certified digital scale. 12 hours after being boated.
Here's the story from On The Water magazine, sponsor of the tournament

Story and Photos: Potential World Record Striper

Quote:
Editor’s note: Our sincerest thanks to Greg Myerson for granting On The Water this interview immediately following the weigh-in. Later in the day, Field and Stream magazine conducted an interview with Myerson in which he stated that he has decided to submit an application to the IGFA, which maintains world records for saltwater and freshwater fish. On Thursday, August 11, the IGFA onfirmed that they have received Myerson’s certification packet and will be reviewing it over the next 60 days. ~Kevin Blinkoff
