Line type for TYBEE ISLAND Georgia Coast fall break

I am headed down to tybee island for fall break this year and I was wondering whether an intermediate or floating line was recommended? I have a 9 weight rod with 10 weight floating line as of now but if i plan to fish the surf do i need the intermediate or perhaps even sink tip to get the fly down to the fish or will i be ok with the floating line? Opinions on this topic on the internet that i have researched thus far seemed to vary and were unclear. Also any tips for fishing tybee island would be appreciated as well.
Thanks.

Surf + Floating line = misery

Here's why, to be able to impart action to your fly and feel strikes, you need as straight a connection to the fly/hook as possible. With a floating line being tossed around and made wiggly by the surf, you'll never have a straight line to your fly.

If you're fishing one of those weird places where the surf is flat, of course this doesn't apply. You also could fish the bays on the back side of the island, and be safe with the floating line.

Hi mrdamminator,

I don't have a lot of surf experience so can't help with the line selection. I do know that part of Georgia has some wonderful flats that a floating line would be perfect. I think there are Redfish there now and you should try to catch the low tide.

I will be there October 24-28. How will the fishing be then and what fish can I look to catch? Will the redfish still be there?

If you are fishing the ocaen intermidiate is the way to go very rare when it is calm enough for a floating line, but for back bays and smaller waters floating is a must. i would get a spare spool and carry both. Good Luck and be very careful in rough surf a stripping basket with drain holes is a must too
