I am big fan of both companies, and honestly their quality is on the same level in my opinion. So just find which product you like best and go for it.

Honestly, the one with the best price and best fit. You can't go wrong with either. LL Bean also makes some great products with reasonable prices backed with their legendary lifetime guarantee.

Watch a site called steepandcheap.com it is run by backcountry.com and they do deals that count down, I have gotten a lot of stuff of there and love the site. They have great pricing usually on stuff. With all the good brands like North Face, Patagonia, Marmot, etc.

I just looked at a Simms hat. It was made of wood fiber and soy dyes. This is the green thing taken to the point I would never buy it. Biodegradable is fine, but I don't want it to do it while I'm still wearing it.
