The mat was the guide's. But I am pretty sure I saw them in either the Feathercraft or the Cabela's Fly Fishing catalog....but I could be mistaken.

With enough room to fight the fish, and no current to help the fish, you can land amazingly large fish on a good 8wt rod. Factor in some stiff current or rough structure, and I go up in rod weight pretty quickly......if for no other reason than to be humane to the fish I intend to release.
