Re: Went to the small creek again yesterday.......

Lake Guntersville is definitely my favorite body of water to fish around here. It consistently produces larger, healthier fish than any other body of water around here that I fish regularly. Take the...

Re: Went to the small creek again yesterday.......

Well here is an example pic of a spot. Sadly this one was not taken on the fly, but I thought that it might be useful as a reference. I wish I had taken a better picture of the patterning on it's...

Re: Went to the small creek again yesterday.......

That looks like a really fun place to fish!

To me those both look like largemouth, although they are quite nice ones for a small creek like that! The first one has the dark coloration along its...

Re: Peach Color Oscar?

I'm almost 100% sure that it is an oscar, or at least a very close relative to it that I've personally never heard of.

Like George said, it does look like an albino, although it does have more...

Re: Peach Color Oscar?

I've caught oscars on spinning tackle while fishing for bluegill in Lake Okeechobee in south Florida, but I think that is as far north as you can find them.

They are definitely ferocious fighters...

Re: Sipsey Fork - Alabama

I actually went there today and caught my first trout on a fly rod (well, my first six :D). The generators were not scheduled to run today, so I decided that it would be a pretty good day to try it...

Re: Florocarbon ? Why or what is it

I had heard that the reason fluorocarbon is less visible in water is because it refracts light at an angle much closer to the refraction angle of water. I'm fairly new to buying fly fishing tippets...

Re: Sunglass lens color?

It's possible that they have changed it since I bought mine, but the blue mirror 580's that I have are definitely amber when looking through them.
I haven't tried any of the new models from this...

Re: Sunglass lens color?

I have the Costa Harpoons with the mirror blue 580 lenses, and they work great for me for sight fishing.
They are basically an amber when you're looking through them.

I picked the blue mirror...

Re: New guy in Alabama

Wow thanks I didn't even know about that place! I'll definitely have to check on that sometime soon when there's decent weather (and when I take a break from crappie fishing).

Re: New guy in Alabama

Yeah I plan to buy a rotary vise so I can start tying some flies, but I'm short on money right now. (college student budget :frown:) If I start to get too impatient while saving up to get one, I...

Re: New guy in Alabama

I mostly go after bluegill and shellcracker, but I caught a crappie on my new 2wt yesterday (first fish on it too ) and I'm taking it with me on the boat tomorrow to specifically target...

Re: Okay, this is embarrassing...

Yeah definitely appear to be golden shiners. I've caught a couple in Lake Guntersville in that size range while fishing for bluegill and shellcrackers on spinning gear, but they don't seem to get...

New guy in Alabama

Hi I'm still pretty new to fly fishing, but I've fished with primarily spinning gear for my entire life. I'm an aerospace engineering student (for now) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
