Re: Warning Label - On a Fly Rod...Really?

Its funny, when I climb peaks and I'm above timberline I'm very paranoid about lightening. I start early, try to summit before noon and will throw in the towel if thunderheads start forming before I...

Re: A few observations from the Cabelas Fly Catalog.

I noticed this years fly fishing catalog has a page with spinning rods/reels (pg 17). The last couple of years I haven't opened their catalog when I received it so this might not be new. I know at...

Re: Today! Cabelas Prime 50% off

The rods I ordered just arrived. As soon as I unpacked them I checked their action and instantly had an ear to ear grin. This is what a fly rods action should be like IMO! I can't wait to fish with...

Re: How Many Fly Rods Do You Own

I have 24 rods ranging from 2wt to 9wt. I'm down a few since I sold a couple and traded a few off for other toys. I have more 4wts than anything and they get most of my attention. The only "oddball"...

Re: Today! Cabelas Prime 50% off

I just ordered two before the sale ends. I ordered a 6' 3wt and a 6'4" 4wt. These will be my first glass rods. I like moderate action rods that you can feel load on the backcast and feel the fight...

Re: Bear Creek

I used to fish Bear Creek often when I lived in Golden. Its a great stream! One day while fishing in the park section of it I had a feeling I was being watched. I looked up to see this guy perched...

Re: What type of fish is this?

That reminds me, years ago Warmwater Fly Fishing Magazine (anyone remember that one?) had an article on fishing in Florida. They were catching oscars that were pets people had released.

Re: First day of fly fishing in 20 years.

Beautiful country! Hard to have a bad day with a fly rod in hand or hunting/stump shooting with a trad bow. I'm impressed that little stream produces pike that big.

Re: Remember your first time casting?

When I was about 12 years old I started sneaking my dads fly rod out to a local creek that my friends and I would fish all summer. That rod was off limits to me at the time. I taught myself to cast...

Re: Fishing the Eagle (pic heavy)

Looks like a great day! Do you fish Clear Creek near Idaho Springs? About 14-15 years ago I was on a construction crew building the bridges at the Hidden Valley exit. I used to fish that part of...

Re: 5wt for streamers?

I use streamers on 4 wt rods all the time. Small, simple streamers can attract big fish. Here are a couple of the better ones from last year using that combo.

A 23" brown.

Re: 25" Rainbow and a 24" Football

This place is known for big, heavy, strong fish so I use a 10' 7 weight rod. It also helps handle the large streamers I throw. Here is a 24.5 inch fish I caught a few days after the others. The fish...
