Re: Damn! That was a humbling experience.

I didn't want to admit my fear of falling while on the casting deck. For me it was worse getting on and off the deck but once on it I was ok.

Possibly if you would have puked it would bring the...

Re: What you recommend for a 7wt reel?

Look at "retro" and consider a used Medalist 1495. These workhorse reels go under $50 delivered on Ebay all the time. Nothing beats their unique "clackety, clack".

Re: Damn! That was a humbling experience.

Been there for sure. We did a trip with my sons over spring break for Redfish with Greg Dini & Miles LaRose out of Hopedale, LA.

I spend months prior stretching out my distance cast, doubling...

Re: Opinions on a few rods for Northern Pike

We have the Sage Flights and Vantages in 7, 8, 10wt. I really like these rods.

Don't misunderstand the fast, mod/fast nomenclature of today. Many makers now spend more time telling how "fast" they...

Re: Textured or not?

I've been using the SA Clouser in 8wt that is texture so this might not all apply to a fresh water trout 5wt use.

Having said that I love the way it shoots. It seems to shoot better than my other...

Re: 6wt bass taper ?

I use a 6wt Bass Bug taper on a 9' 5wt TFO Signature and love it. I can toss a bit bigger hoppers and small/mid size poppers. You won't wow your buddies with 90' casts but really push bugs with...

Carbon fiber when?

The only carbon fiber reels I've seen on the market are cheap injected molded economy items.

However just reference other sports with highly stressed components requiring a high degree of...

Re: Ported vrs solid reels ?

When fishing light (6wt & below) reel/line/rod then the porting does not have much effect.

However just pick up an older Penn Saltwater or Fin Nor reels for 7 thru 12 wt use then pick up just...

Re: Muddy water fun

Figured a "muddy water" string needed a bit of mud. Here's my 2 sons (oldest with fish, youngest (feet) with camera) with a decent alligator gar. Note the mud on Thomas' had. He'll do what it takes...

Re: The Shad are in :)

I am envious. Been reading in fishing mags since 60's about catching shad. We just don't have them here in Texas but I have these on my flyfishing "bucket list".

Like your fishing buddy, does he...

Re: Backing Strength?

Unless you have an older reel with very small capacity 30# would be a better choice. It will be stronger than your tippet. There are darn few fish that the difference in capacity could be an issue....
