Re: Let's talk "Hot Spots"...

The hotspots Im sure can add to your catch total but they are not for me. I;m much more into natural colors but not totally limited I will use brass and copper bead heads which I feel serve the same...

Re: Fly tying saves money?

I think someone could save money by tying flies if the only bought materials for the basic 10 flies they fish. Unfortunately everyone I know is like me and invests 2K to 3K in an effort to own...

Re: St. Croix vs. Orvis

The worst thing you can do is take a rod recommendation for specific rods from another fly fisherman. Other fishermen can be great for answering questions and pointing you in a direction. You need to...

hi Bill
I'm in Atlanta but spent many years in Oakway on my Daddys farm near the Wahalla/Seneca area and I consider the Chattogga my home waters. the 4 vs 5 piece is for carrying ease and really...

Re: Newbie here. Just bought my rod. Need some suggestions for the rest.

I have fly fished for 35 years and caught many 20"+ fish biggest being a 24" Rainbow aprox 8 lbs and none of them ever took line against the drag so as long as you're talking about trout I dont think...

Re: Orvis SuperFine Carbon tech sheet

You do raise some valid and probable concerns Orvis should put a little more effort into more clearly naming their products/product lines

Re: Orvis SuperFine Carbon tech sheet

I think if you would have looked at the link before you commented you would have known what the whole thread was about, grips were not mentioned in the thread

Re: Orvis SuperFine Carbon tech sheet

I'm not a Orvis expert, not even really a Orvis liker (as a company), but the old Superfines were fiberglass the "new" Superfine Carbon is graphite so I dont really think the changes are cosmetic and...

Re: Newbie here. Just bought my rod. Need some suggestions for the rest.

My advice would be a little different, save money on your reel, like someone else said its just a line holder. You can get a Okuma for under $50 and it is a very serviceable reel in 5wt range. Take...

Re: what rod weight

I'm sure somebody with your obvious experience could do that very easily, somebody with my experience (zero) will need all the crutches to start out with. How do you get the finish to set evenly with...

Re: what rod weight

I had been playing with the idea of building a rod but in addition to the price of the blank you need to price out all the tools, threads, glues, turning motor, guides, reel seat, cork handle,...

Re: what rod weight

The TiCrX is a brute built for power with a very stiff butt section for handling big strong fish. It will throw big bushy flies and land a ski boat if you can hook it. It is not for touch...

Re: White river bugger fly reel/rod outfit?

I'm not a name brand rod snob and some of the Bass Pro White River are very fishable rods but a $40 rod that they don't list the action (action being a huge part of a fly rod) might make me pass on...

Re: Live or Die

I would think the poor handling in a attempt to get the stupid "glory" shots of the fish laying on the bank beside the rod kill more fish than being gut hooked

Re: Help. Rod decision based on application

not much difference between a 4wt and 5wt, if you;re looking at a shorter rod I'd suggest you think about the possibility of a 3 wt. St Croix offers the 3wt Avid in 7'9" while its listed as a mod....
