Re: Spawners

I can't answer for him, but he may have been referring to trout spawning in inlet or outlet streams to/from the lakes.

In stillwaters, trout will go through the motions, it just won't produce any...

Re: Convertible waders worth it?

It's a matter of opinion. I don't think they're worth it. My brother loves them. You won't go wrong either way.

Where are you located, blackbugger?

And what do you mean by "unused river bottom?"

Re: May 1st - Vail, CO to Jackson, WY road trip.

We'll probably be into runoff by May 1, though a late spring could push the start to just after that. You may be limited to tailwaters.

Re: Winter Fishing in Western Wyoming

According to the snow gauges, we're actually about average across most of Wyoming. Is there really decent snowpack in the mountains, just not in the lowlands?

Is it possible to get away from people in Ohio?

I'm considering an opportunity to relocate to Ohio (just east of Columbus), but I'm a little hesitant to go from a state with 7.0 people/sqmi to a state with 283 people/sqmi.

Out here, I can get...

Re: How's the Snowpack out there?

So far most places are relatively normal, but it's still way early. There's more snow on the ground now in most places than there was at the same time in 2011, which was one of the biggest runoff...

Re: Couple Hours in Utah

No, they're not everywhere. They're just everywhere you've heard of.

This was in Utah last spring. Not a footprint was seen.

Re: Couple Hours in Utah

I'll counter that the Green is awful, unless you like huge crowds with no etiquette and cookie cutter rainbows with all kinds of damage from being caught repeatedly.

But, hey, there are tons of...

Good thing F&G didn't come by just as he was fishing. You'd have ruined his day.

Re: winter time blues

With it still being elk season, we donned some orange. Of course, 1/4 mile up from the access, there were no other humans to be seen, but still, better safe than sorry.

Re: winter time blues

I'm actually in NE Montana. That's a pure freestone. There are a few minor springs that come in, but I wouldn't call it anything but a freestone. It just moves fast enough to remain mostly open.

Re: Quit whining about winter

It was actually warm this weekend. Highs in the 30's. Up to 2' of snow on the ground in places. It's not really spring fed, it's just high-gradient enough that it largely remains unfrozen. Water...

Re: winter time blues

You don't need a tailwater to have good fly fishing in the winter in the mountain west.
