Re: Identify the bug / what patterns

Here are some Caenis patterns but most of them are from Europe and even South Africa so I am not sure they will match. May be you'll get some ideas.

Re: Redington Vapen black

I like it.

One of the reasons I bought the original GLoomis GLX was the matte black finish on most of the rod. Less rod flash.

Re: Clear Fly Line adavantegs?

I have read about the advantages of clear fly lines in certain situations especially for tarpon. So here are some articles that recommend clear fly lines.

Re: Fly Line

Go to a park to practice casting. You need more space.

Rippling in the lower 1/3 of a fly rod blank suggest to me that the rod is over loaded and is a very soft fly rod. I suspect that it is...

Re: Clear Fly Line adavantegs?

Kelly,

I think what that clear line does is to give you the same benefit that a very, very long leader would do but with more control since what would be the butt of that long leader is actually...

Re: Embracing The Future

I'm going to go in another direction and say that the greatest improvements in fly fishing have been in the area of our understanding of techniques, methods, and knowledge about our prey.

We have...

Re: Underlining a rod

I am assuming that they are talking about casting.

Underlining allows longer casts because a lighter line requires less energy to cast so there is a reserve of flex/power/stiffness in the rod...

Re: The Shimano Beancounters Just Wrecked Loomis

Orvis had a 25 year warranty. Sage was the first company to make it a lifetime warranty.

The prices increased when Sage offered a lifetime warranty. Basically, the customer was buying a no fault...

Re: Recommend a Reel to Balance CT 9044

Then I agree. You are "balancing" the rod/reel so the tip is light during fishing which is how I like it also. See my post below:

Re: Recommend a Reel to Balance CT 9044

Your post assumes that a fly rod system needs to be balanced. I am trying to understand what you are trying to do.

Why do you think a fly rod and reel need to be "balanced"? What is the purpose of...

As others have said, you can use the 7/8 fishing smaller fish than bass.

But there are other considerations such as will a 7/8 fly rod be as effective as a lighter rod? That is species dependent....

I alway fish hexes with a 5 wt rod.

Rather that have us tell you what your daughter can do, let your daughter cast with a 5 and 6 wts see and see how she does.

Re: Newbie fly caster using bass bugs

You probably need to shorten the leader. Go down to a 7.5 foot leader. Then use a thicker tippet so you get a more efficient energy transfer. I don't know what size popper so you may need to over...

Re: Is 3 more inches good for a woman?

Actually it is true for men as well.

If you fish from a float tube, wade deep, or are a shorter person male or female, a longer fly rod allows the angler to keep more line off of the water, mend...
