Re: Dupage River is on FIRE!!!

On Thursday may 16th, I went for a walk to scope territory. I did not carry a rod with me.

In a few block stretch I spotted 9 carp heads down foraging around the bottom. (I love catching carp on...

Re: ross CLA vs. lamson konic

I jumped into this hobby equipped with a Konic. I think I even caught my first first fly fishing fish on this reel. most likely (a grayling).

Its a awesome reel, and I have no complaints other...

Re: I'm so tired of getting ripped off!

If my earlier post contributed to any of the bickering, I will apologize now. This wasn't my intent. I don't have have any political agendas, and do appreciate American made products, over the...

Re: I'm so tired of getting ripped off!

I don't see how my post applies, as both reels were produced in china. The US needs to put laws in place that protect internal manufacturing. Obviously what ever laws they have currently in place are...

Re: I'm so tired of getting ripped off!

For my brothers wedding gift, I purchased him a Orvis Hydros reel, and got his wife a separate gift. This is by far the most expensive reel I have ever purchased, it still came with a predominate...

Re: What is the best trout fly reel ever made?

I'm going to expose my ignorance, but have to ask why such a low start up inertia is even valued in fly fishing? Yea its a nice thing to have, and shows a inherent quality in engineering........ but...

Re: Name that Reel Game

This might just be a game that is tailored made to my skill set. As I own just about every obscure sub 20$ reel I have ever encountered.

My 1st entry.....

Re: Am I overreacting?

I've planned and invited people on trips before. I don't find it uncommon, for the people I invite to ask to invite others bringing in additional group dynamics.

Most people have limited vacation...

Re: Pet Peeve's.............

When fishing with a buddys who are in-experianced anglers, and everything you catch is wrote up in there book as luck. (I never say anything, but it sort of feels like a stab in the heart, when you...

Re: Dupage River is on FIRE!!!

The area that got hit the worst up here is also called river drive, and runs just west of the river. My brother has a house on it, and it filled up to the basement ceiling.

Once we realized his...

Re: The best of the best:) pics included!

Also have a Allen that is very nice. My only complaint (although minor) is I wish the foot was just a tad longer. Really not a big deal! I also have my fist ever busted up hardy coming in the mail,...

Nice to hear, that's my most often fished river, two weeks ago I could have taken a few casts off my front steps. I always wanted river front property!

Re: Tippett rings

I would never try and argue that this method is better, For me its very fast and convenient (this works for me). I'm not successful enough of a caster to notice much of a difference, so when I'm fly...

Re: Little tricks to share

I'm a reel guy, so this trick might not apply to everyone. But for us reel guys, I'm sure we all once came upon a reel we wanted, but had a damaged foot causing you to avoid it's purchase. Others may...

Re: How is Rio Grande different than just over lining?

Harbor Freight now sells two scales that are really inexpensive. I purchased another offering they had a few years ago, and its pretty accurate. I've been happy with it. Here are two links to the...

Re: Not sure if anybody has tried this??

Most people who enter this hobby have the same goal. I don't think its realistic. If you get hooked into the hobby, you will most likely seek out additional nitch gear. The 7wt you purchased will...

Re: How is Rio Grande different than just over lining?

I keep a chart of all the fly lines I've ever owned.

This first fly line presented that is relative to this post was sold as a WF-7-F. Per my calculations it measures as a WF-8.8-F, with an actual...

Re: Reel Love; the Fly Reel Picture Thread

That picture up above looks like a perfect match! I don't think there is a sole on this site that would be able to break up that pairing. Is it the Allen?

Re: Reel Love; the Fly Reel Picture Thread

12$ Cobra Farlow.

This reel had both cosmetic, and performance issues. Cosmetics were worse than desired, Loose rivets, and non functioning pawls.

Re: good deal $15 bucks? maybe

Don't mean to be a downer, I'd expect the reel to go for at least 1/2 that price. I do however find the reels drag design very interesting, It looks like it pulls to increase drag on the plate,...

Re: Any opinions on Cabela's Prestige Premier fly line

The Cabela's in my area very often have the prestige lines in the bargain bin. I've picked them up in store, at large discounts, and have been very happy with the 18-26$ paid.

Re: Reel Cleaning Pics/tutorial?

Doesn't look all that different than my own tool kit :) . I routinely break down reels to the smallest components. Fly reels really are really not that difficult, and are a great starting point for...
