Re: best crappie fly ?

I'll have to give that one a look. I haven't had any time to tie this semester. It will be good to get to a bench.

Re: Freedom at last!--trip on Tuesday

Thanks, everyone. I'm pretty much like a kid on Christmas eve right now. So is the "old man", too.

We're ready with all the essentials: fishing gear, deck of cards, peanuts, campfire wood, lounge...

Freedom at last!--trip on Tuesday

Turned the last paper in Friday after a rough semester of classes. Dad and I are scheduled for five days of camping /fishing at a regional lake starting Tuesday. They say the crappies are frisky!

Re: best crappie fly ?

Crappies ought to love the cat's whisker fly. Scroll down a bit to find it. If nothing else, Dave Cammis is a delight to listen to as he ties.

Re: I have found Nirvana!

Bluegills (and LM bass) are my bread and butter fish. Trout are my favorite, but are 3-4 hours away and require vacation time and budget money. Bluegills and bass, however, are within walking...

Re: 10 pages anbd a project away from freedom!

Oh, yes. Talked about alot of it in class. This course has had less emphasis on the military side than many course, though. It brought out more of the tensions between Catholic New France and...

Re: Dear God, this guy was lucky!

As you say, out of the water! Here in Kansas we get nasty T-storms all the time.

Your experience reminds me of a band day one year in my hometown when several grade school bands are marching on...

Re: 10 pages anbd a project away from freedom!

Actually two essays (5 pages each)--one is on the American colonies and how they grew and matured into stable, proudly British societies before all hell broke loose with England. The second is the...

10 pages anbd a project away from freedom!

I'm finishing a brutal semester of grad school and this is all that's left.--ten pages of essay to write and a small project. Due Friday and then it's leave for five days of camping/fishing with my...

Re: Dear God, this guy was lucky!

Wow!

Be careful, folks!

This is one area I've seen stupidity come out in flyfishermen. Thunder starts rumbling and people still insist on standing around in water waving a long pole in the...

Re: Nymphs for smallmouth bass?

Here's something you can try, based on the Huron river anglers I mentioned earlier. They swear by Chernobyl Ants for those smallies up there. Maybe tie one on and a stonefly nymph on a dropper. A...

Re: Nymphs for smallmouth bass?

On the huron river of Michigan, they go after hexagenias, including the nymphs. They get good hatches.

I would think big stonefly nymphs would work on them.

There is a website and board with...

Re: New to fly fishing and in need of help

Welcome aboard, Eric!

Cabelas is well-regarded. I have a three forks rod. It works well.

There's a learning curve to all of this, but you'll climb it soon enough.

The essential skills:...

Re: Little tricks to share

I tie a caddis imitiation with a piece of foam for the wing/head. I don't know how sophisticated trout would treat it, but it catches stockers and bluegills with ease. Great floatation, so it makes a...

Yellowstone.

Now, that assumes the air drop includes at least a parachute or some other means of soft landing. If not, next to a local bluegill pond is a shopping center that has a "Mattress...

Re: Returning to Fly Fishing

Welcome!

Sounds like a cool place to fish. Here in Kansas, there isn't much in the way of smallmouth bass. Tight lines!
