I would definitely consider it an adult situation.

Re: Traveling with tying materials

TSA once opened up a bottle of head cement in my checked luggage to test it, and didn't properly close it. Or properly close the ziplock bag it was in. It messed up the suitcase to the point I had...

Re: Lost Cove Creek, North Carolina

Fly pattern doesn't matter too much on that stream, but make sure you have heavy nymphs that can get down under boulders. I find a good combination is a heavy buggy pattern with a small midge nymph...

Re: Jewels of the Driftless

Wisconsin or Minnesota side?

Also, those brookies look a bit on the thin side. You could help out the population by keeping a couple, if you're into that. :)

Re: Fly fishing near Fairfax, VA?

Rather than type out my Rapidan tips again, I'll just link to this thread:

Re: The Cost of this Winter to our Fisheries....

There's no way a 12' deep lake froze solid.

The food base (plants, algae, bugs, etc) for the lake is most likely fine and the predatory fish will quickly repopulate from the main lake. The fish...

Re: Southeast Minnesota Trip

That area gets a ton of trash because it's a local kid hang-out/campsite. I don't think the stream itself gets much fishing pressure.

Re: Fly fishing near Fairfax, VA?

Stop and fish the Shenandoah National Park on your way through. That's what I do every time I visit family in Centreville, VA. Take 29 the entire way through VA and you'll be able to access all the...

Re: Southeast Minnesota Trip

How's the Diamond fishing? Whenever I fish the Gribben, I'm reminded that my second-favorite trout stream is just the next draw over.

Re: Trip to the Driftless

For the Viroqua area, a size 12 brown scud fished at the bottom under an indicator is deadly this time of year. Also, keep some black caddis dries handy, that hatch should be coming soon. And if...

Re: Grand, Super Grand, and Royal Slams.....

Every angler makes his own rules when he's out on the water, by selecting gear, harvest, species targeted, etc. It seems that the minutiae that would accompany the rules for completion of a slam...

Re: Techniques for very narrow creeks

One technique I use on streams like that in the WI driftless when it's windy is to let some line out behind me downstream, then use the tension from the line on the water to make a cast forward. No...

Re: Upperville/ Middleburg VA fly fishing spots

The Rapidan is the top-rated stream in the park. It deserves it, but gets tons of pressure. Anything that stays wet all year round will have brookies in the park. Get Harry Murray's book, it lists...

Re: Upperville/ Middleburg VA fly fishing spots

You're less than 15 minutes from my favorite smallmouth water: The Shenandoah river. Top notch.

Also, you're only an hour from the Shenandoah National Park, which is an amazing native trout...

Re: Favorite Scud Pattern

Where you're located is going to make a big difference.

I've refined my favorite scud pattern after years of fishing the Driftless region of Minnesota. I fish one pattern in two colors...

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

I'd say that NC would be the Royal Wulff, based on the discussion in This Thread (http://www.theflyfishingforum.com/forums/general-discussion/319153-what-look-2.html#post555481). For the small...

Re: How many fish will I loose when......

It doesn't matter much to the fish either. Minnesota just abandoned its barbless requirements for winter season after a study concluded that barb vs. barbless did not impact fish mortality rates. ...

Where are you fishing? How you nymph changes in every individual stream and even individual holes and runs.

Re: Favorit spring fly???

Size 14 March Brown up top. Size 16 black hare's ear dropper. The black hare's ear mimics early black stonefly nymphs and buggy emergers common in the spring around here.

Re: Any peacock bass in port charlotte area?

I don't know that I'd drive 10 hours to fish Lake Norman, especially with the great fishing on Florida's Gulf Coast.

Re: One stream were I fish

Nice pics!

My opinion of Appalachian trout fishing is that if there isn't a rhododendron overhanging the stream, you're in the wrong spot. :)

Re: Going stir crazy!

Good call on going on a Monday. I bet there will be over 100 people on that river both Saturday and Sunday. The NC Delayed Harvest program is tremendously popular, especially in the areas too far...
