Re: Any recommendations on where to buy SW flies on line

KF
More like $50-70 to get started, if that.
A vise costs little and you can buy kits. No need to spend a fortune to start off with, if you like it then you can buy the nice stuff.

Re: Any recommendations on where to buy SW flies on line

KF
Given SW flies are some of the easiest flies to tie, particularly given their size I would really recommend giving it a try.
Look on YouTube and you'll see how easy a Clouser is to tie. Great...

Re: Fly fishing saltwater magazine

Yes Gone. Nov/Dec was the last issue. I subscribe and have been told I'll be receiving Salt-water Sportsman instead.
A real pity because I did enjoy the mag even though it was very US orientated and...

Re: Orvis sells Ross Reels...

Very interesting and informative, many thanks S&S.
Good on Orvis too for keeping them going and not killing the brand off. I hope Mayfly do as suggested and promised too. Great for our sport and...

Re: Orvis sells Ross Reels...

Orvis did own BFR!
They purchased it in 1993 and closed the factory in Falmouth in Dec 2004 when all the equipment was moved off shore (Far East) to a new manufacturing facility.
Bizarrely upon...

Re: The End of The Line; Discussions on Furlled & Knotted Leaders.

This maybe a stupid question so forgive me.
Are furlled leaders and twisted leaders one in the same?
Are they suitable for saltwater, large flies....12wt etc?

I was wondering as I would think...

Re: Reel Love; the Fly Reel Picture Thread

Off to Farquhar Atoll in Spring 2014, so out of excitement and in readiness for Santa's arrival and the new lines I have asked for, I've been putting new backing on my 10,11&12wt reels :D

The Classic Fly Rod forum -problems-Help!

Re: Belize recommendations?

I haven’t been to El Pescador, but went to Turneffe Flats in April this year.
It was an OK trip, not mind blowing and the fishing was somewhat disappointing. The guides said it was because of the...

Re: Abel Model Confusion - Please Help

The problem is with the names. The older Abels with small arbors were known as Big Game and there were 3, 3.5, 4 etc. This referred to the reel size in inches. The 3N you refer to is a narrow, with...

Re: Sealed drag vs non sealed.

Sn'S

I'm not sure that is an absolute. If the clutch bearing is within a casing sealed with "O" rings I would argue it is sealed.

One could say that a watch in which you pull out the crown to...

Re: Iconic London Fishing Store Opens in St Petersburg

Stock wise I wouldn't doubt many US stores are better stocked.
Farlows sister store just outside London has a greater range, casting ponds/lakes and tuition on site.
What Farlows do offer is a...

Re: Nucast reels

The internals and push button release on the spool look very similar to the G Loomis/Shimano Cross Current reels which are China made. The sizes are similar too.
It might be better/prudent to stick...

Re: Looking for a Bonefish Reel

This should help with some ideas for a bonefish reel.
Don't discount the Orvis Mirage IV. If they had given it 10 for a sealed drag (which it has-as good as any of the other sealed drags) it would...
