Re: Pricing of Premium Rods and Equipment - Yikes!!

..... No more so than overpriced tuition and branded merchandise. ND should have used their own brand in that study! Kind of like the pot calling the kettle black..... No one has sold placebo...

Re: Which switch rod? - Trout

I'm looking at a Loomis pro4x 10'6, 5 weight. It'll cast a 5 or 6 weight line overhead, cast scandi at 320 grains and skagit at 350. Just a beautiful rod and one at the top my list. Great price at...

Anyone else miss the nautilus fwx?

I've viewed the new nautilus x frame with its offset reel seat. To me it just doesn't drive my need to buy. I'd rather switch to a galvan. I miss the classic, yet progressive look of the old FW...

Re: Orvis Hydros SL

First off, a pre-emptive apology for the distaste for Orvis noted below. I've tried, and this is one person's story, and may not be the norm for all. On a side note, I LOVE the helios 2 SW 6 weight...

Re: Orvis Hydros SL

So Orvis had all the hype posted on this new reel, then a few days later the website looks as if it never existed.

I was thrilled about this reel, as it has all the intangibles. It's beyond me...

Re: NRX 8wt w/ AirFlo Bruce Chard Tropical Punch

I was wondering the same thing. Also wondering if anyone has fished the tropical punch in cooler waters since its rated to 40 degrees.

What other line options are you considering?

Re: 590 & 690 Sage Salt...What for?

I would echo the surf perch and corbina use in southern cal. Would also make a decent streamer rod with a heavier line.

Personally I didn't like the sage salt or any of the XI rods. The salt...

Re: loomis shore stalker or short stix?

I've contemplated this question as well, although not with the shore stalker, but with the short stix. The 7/8 is supposed to be fantastic; however, the 8/9may help present larger flies.

I've...

Re: Orvis Hydros SL Fly Reel

I agree on your weight assessment for the smaller numbered models. I like the price vs specs for the 7/8 weight models and above. I see the lower weights great for longer rods like a 3 or 4 weight...

Re: Orvis Hydros SL Fly Reel

Orvis has a warranty and a 100% satisfaction guarantee. What they likely don't cover are people who use reels like basketballs and bounce them off floors.

I doubt what your seller did to the...

Re: Orvis Hydros SL Fly Reel

Thanks for including. That is the review I noticed, and it appears to be the only review at this time. Specs appear to be extremely high performance for the price. Add the Orvis warranty, an this...

Orvis Hydros SL Fly Reel

I just noticed a review on the Orvis Hydros SL fly reel from IFTD. It seems like this reel swooped in under the radar of many; however, it appears on paper to be a real winner.

Improved features...

Shorter, all-purpose rods in mid to heavy line weights

It appears some of the new rod materials and actions have lent well to shorter saltwater weight rods. Originally thought of as niche rods, these shorter rods have removed swing weight and are...

Re: GLoomis Pro4x ShortStix

I've heard great things about the 7-8 as well. My view is that if a 7/8 can throw big flies, the 8/9 can throw even larger flies and span between a smallmouth rod, trout streamers and smaller pike...

Re: GLoomis Pro4x ShortStix

By heads do you mean shooting head lines or sink tips? I ordered a SA mastery textured Titan taper in a nine weight in prep for either the 8/9 short stix or a standard nine weight rod. I'm...

GLoomis Pro4x ShortStix

I hear the seven...

Echo Boost saltwater

I'm interested if anyone has cast one of the light saltwater models (6,7&8). At about $250 it could offer another solid competitor at this point that competes with higher priced rods. How does this...

Airflo switch streamer vs rio switch chucker

I have a 10.5 foot redington cpx switch rod in a six weight. I like the shorter option of the 20 foot head on the airflo switch streamer versus the 25 foot head on the rio switch chucker. I also...

Enjoy the show! I came down with a timely batch of bronchitis and fever. Some things are not meant to be!

Anyone cast the Scott Tidal versus S4S at the show?

Re: Favorite 7 weight & line

I have a redington cpx 10'6", six weight switch that I need to test out too; however I can't get off the kick of the 7 weight as a great all around warm water tool. I feel I'd be best suited for a...
