Re: Great Lakes Salmon and Steelhead

Here in NY, in the fall you are not allowed more than one hook, so a double rig is out of the question (thanks to the "lifters" aka snaggers). I use a 8wt with 6lb yo-zuri hybrid, Yo-Zuri Hybrid...

Re: Horsepower rods - thoughts? Jerking steelhead in.

4WT, 6WT, and 8WT you will have a lot, a lot of fishing covered. I have been using the same three WT rods for a long time. 7' 4wt, 8.5' 6wt, and 9' 8wt. I've pulled in my share of big Steel and...

Re: Flyline age?

New line in hand. I do try to take care of my lines, I silicone grease (dressing) them every chance I get. Kinda like once a week when I am out fishing a lot. Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Flyline age?

Thanks for all the input. I am in the process of replacing the line. It seems my steelhead (big fish) 8wt rig takes the most abuse. My 4wt and 6wt setups aren't nearly as abused. I've allways liked...

Flyline age?

How long do you guys and gals run your flylines? The Cortland 444 on my 8wt is starting to get a rough outer surface for the first 3 feet. I have had it for about 9-10 years. I am thinking about some...

Re: St Croix Switch rods any one here ever cast one?

I just ran across this subject while considering a switch rod purchase. I'd like to say I take everything I find on the net with a grain of salt. There are too many monday morning quarterbacks...

Re: Steelhead Pics

Hey A.J.

You got steel already. It's been slow at this end. A few salmon and some browns here and there (they drop back when the water drops)

Re: Oak Orchad and Monroe Co. Creeks, from Pulaski

Hey Ben

It's about a 3-4 hour drive to the Sandy from the Salmon and another hour to the Oak. It might make a real long day for you. I fish Sandy during the week,(my days off from work) its not...

Re: Chasing the Ozy Salmon.

A friend on mine who had a guide boat in Washington, now in Alaska had a good trick to keep seals away. When his client had a fish on and a seal would make a move on it he would send a few steel BB's...

Re: Setting the hook for steelhead vs trout?

Remember, "you aint bass fishin"!
When I swing a wet they usually hook themself ( violent take of the fly), when I am using a nymph or eggs a quick lift of the rod is enough. Just my own experience...

Re: About tippet for Great lake steelheads

I haven't used straight floro so I can't comment on that. I really like maxima in 6lb and 8lb for most of my Ontario trib fishing. I ran out last year and I was in a panic, I couldn't find any close...

Re: Other Fish than Trout Photos

Nice Atlantic AJ.
It sure looks like an Atlantic. Did the tail have any "fork" to it? Browns have no fork to the tail at all. The part of the tail where your hand is wraped is pretty skinny,...
