Re: Echo 3 for streamers?

If you are one of those bros that measure streamers in inches, a 6 won't quite do it. It's just dangerous to cast something that large with a trout rod, especially on a boat.

I have a friend with...

Re: Serious about streamers

I would go with a slightly moderate 8wt with Rio Outbound Short. I'm using a Winston GVX 890 with 7wt OBS. I like the slower action and powerful butt section for the shorter distance needed with most...

Re: The X ...for Sage fans...

I love this hype machine they get going every June. I'm sure they are great rods.

Re: 2-4-6-8 what do you appreciate?

I have four 3's, two 4's, a 5, two 6's, a 7, and an 8 weight. I could do it all with the fastish 8'9" 3wt, and the fastish 9'6" 7wt. But what fun would that be?

Re: Curvature/warp in rod??

I have two rods with that slight bend, bought them used. One is a Scott and one is a Burkheimer. They both cast amazing, so it doesn't bother me. It would if I had purchased them new.

Re: Loop Opti Stream vs Loop Opti Nymph

Opti Nymph was made at the same time as the Opti Stream, it just didn't last that long. As far as I know they still make Opti rods. Loop rods are good, I've owned and loved four of them, always the...

Re: Small Stream Dry Fly Rod

I recommend getting an Epic built, or the F2.

Re: Fighting Butt or Not on 9' 6wt?

I have a few rods with fighting butts, including a 6wt. They make a fight with a 2-footer a little easier when the fish is trying to go into a log jam. You can also do some ghetto 2-handed casting...

Re: Fishing on the Beartooth Highway?

Give the Lake Fork of Rock Creek a hike. It's usually good by late June, except in high water years it can run high and scary into late July. Some good pools and runs up there with brookies and...

Re: Beulah platinum single hand 997

Can't comment on the Beulah, but can say that configuration is great for both windy day nymphing and medium sized (up to 3" of rabbit) streamers. I use a Loop Multi 796 with SA Magnum, it's great for...

I have liked every mid priced rod I've cast.

Re: Winston 10' Technical Nymphing Rods

I imagine the far, far less expensive Euro rods work just as good. If that's your favorite way to fish, however, why not get the nice one!

Re: Todd similar to SAGE SLT

Check out the Hardy Jet, Winston BIIIX, and Sage Accel. Sweet actions.

Re: Down the Rabbit Hole We Go - Want a 6-wt...

I would go with the BVK. They are really great rods, especially if you can get them for $100!

Re: Scott G2 vs Burkheimer DAL

My Classic 389 is a beast of a 3wt. It is a perfect 4wt for me, very light, smooth, and delicate but can battle some wind. The DAL is probably more fun with long leaders or small fish.

Neither can...

Just want to say thanks again. My 906 looks awesome, and it's just begging me to go fishing tomorrow.

Re: Accel or Mod? Help me choose.

I have the 697. Not my favorite rod to cast, but probably my favorite to fish subsurface with.

Re: Accel or Mod? Help me choose.

Would you consider yourself more of a fast-action person? I have a Pulse rod, and find it a very user-friendly fast action. Not a broomstick, but the guts to recover a bad cast, and very good in the...

Re: 4 weight question

Also keep an eye out for a T&T LPS. Very smooth rods with a surprising amount of power, a bit stiffer in the tip and softer in the butt compared to the progressive Scott rods.

Re: 4 weight question

For everything between Wyoming and Alberta, I highly recommend a Winston.

Re: Hardy Jet on sale

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I am very excited for my 906 to show up. $225 is a sweet deal, should make a good big river dry fly rod.

Re: Winston GVX 6wt. fly rod

I have the GVX 8wt. I had no idea a big rod could cast so smoothly! It is as useful nymphing big water as it is throwing oversized streamers on smaller brown trout streams.

Re: Has anyone fished the Sage Pulse in either a 5 or 6 weight?

I fish my 697 with Airflo Mend, which I think is 1/2 weight heavy. It feels just right. That rod is no broomstick, but it can still damn near cast a whole line. I've read some people saying lower...
