For years I have been buying a 9ft tapered leaders designed for salt/pike/bass that taper down to 12lb. After using up about 2 ft from fly changes, I make a surgeons loop and add 12lb mono (no...

Re: New to fly fishing for bass

One thing I have found with LM and SM, sometimes throwing something really crazy can save the day.

For example, last year in March it was overcast, cool, and when we started, the spin fishing...

Re: When and where for small mouth?

I spent a week in the NY Adirondacks and the smallie fishing was excellent. You also have the possibility of catching LM and pike also. Lots of fun.

Great action the last week of May.

I'm in SC so I start seriously throwing poppers in April thru Oct. I target bass mainly.

When on still water, it is mostly early morning and late afternoon.

On rivers (my favorite) it's all day...

Re: hooks for largemouth

If I'm tying time consuming flies like hair bugs, I pay they extra and go for Gamagatzu B210 like mentioned in a previous post. Those thing are sharp and extremely strong.

Re: Count'n the days!

Nice videos! Me likes the music on the last one.

That first video, that fish must have jumped over 6 ft.

Is it me or do smallies lose about 25% to 50% of their size from the time you hook them...

Re: white bass

Just a normal tackle bag you can pick up at Dick's, Bass Pro, Cabela's, etc.

I think I paid $30 for mine at Dick's. Nothing specialized like those $90 multi pocketed bags with famous brand names...

Re: Smallmouth Bass line

I was going to recommend the SA Bass bug taper (Mastery?) which I have used for 15 to 20 years. I think I'm on my fourth one now. However, I just looked on SA website and my favorite line is no more!...

Re: Fishing a popper?

I lean more toward brookfieldangler's tactics but that being said, I fish more rivers than lakes and I think that makes a difference.

My first presentation is slam it down hard and start popping....
