Re: Fiberglass confusion

Your rod is pretty much wiggling as one would expect a fiberglass rod to wiggle. Graphite as a material is stiffer than fiberglass, so fiberglass rods tend to be slower in action, i.e. they bend...

Re: 45 Days in the USA and Only For Fishing

Way off topic, you don't play music, do you? Reason I ask, there is a big deal music related event held in Fort Wayne during your stay. It's one of the few things I'd personally give up a day of...

Re: 45 Days in the USA and Only For Fishing

It sounds like you might be interested in trying some methods of fishing other than fly fishing. You'll get great fly fishing related advice here, but I thought I'd also include a couple of unique...

Re: 45 Days in the USA and Only For Fishing

As I started to read your note, my first inclination was to suggest you come to Michigan to fish for trout. The first couple of weeks of June are prime time for outstanding dry fly fishing.

Re: Is tenkara replacing your western style fly fishing?

I'd expand that to say using a long rod and light line allows for accurate and precise presentation of your fly. Dead drift is one necessary presentation, but certainly not the only one. Not...

Re: Im a beginner to Steelhead nymphing. Need some advice

I think that's probably true for alot of other fish at well. Fish are very good at sucking things in, and spitting stuff out. There's alot of stuff floating along with the current, some of it's...

Re: Is tenkara replacing your western style fly fishing?

It's amazing how many times I've heard, I used a fixed-length line system and caught more fish than I ever had before.

Why is that? Same person, fishing the same waters, to the same fish, using...

Re: Ross 'Cimmaron' #2 regular arbor.

If the frame has 6 large holes, it's pre 98, if it has more than 6 (large and small), it's post 98.

Re: 3wt short stick

If you plan to fish mostly small streams, you are going to want to overline your rod by a size or two. Remember, the line weight given on your rod assumes you are going to be making casts of 30 feet...

Re: Im a beginner to Steelhead nymphing. Need some advice

As with most things, it takes time and practice to develop skills. Sounds like you are off to a good start.

One suggestion, if you have the opportunity to fish with someone who has a bit more...

Re: Anyone else just slop it out there?

As with most things in life, there are exceptions; but often times, you don't need to be a great (or good) caster to catch fish.

My wife is a great example, she probably can't cast more than...

Re: Best way to clean up cork prior to sale

An old soft toothbrush with a small dab of toothpaste does a pretty good job if you don't have anything more exotic at hand.

Re: Glass or graphite for midges

I think maybe more important than the material is you want a rod with a slow progressive taper. As you point out, that provides a cushion when it comes time to set the hook and play the fish.

Dorber sells reasonably priced blanks in the configurations you requested. I've never fished their longer rods, but have fished their short rods, and have been very satisfied with them -

Re: Bamboo Rods, Your Thoughts.....

Exactly! With a cane rod, you are dealing with a natural material, entirely processed by hand. Try to go to a building supply store and find two identical 2x4s.

In some respects, I think the...

Re: Bamboo Rods, Your Thoughts.....

If you really want to go cheap, get a generic 9' three piece rod. Use the butt section to stake your tomato plants and put a grip on what was the mid section, resulting in a 6' rod with which to...
