Re: fishing emergers/cheesecloth seine

Leonard M. Wright Jr. wrote that he used cheesecloth as a seine/net. He simply rolled it up and put it in his pocket when he wasn't using it.

Has anyone tried using cheesecloth? It's certainly...

Re: fishing emergers

Great post. How do you feel about using an indicator when fishing an emerger?

The biggest problem I have when fishing emergers is that I can't see them.

Re: Problem fishing a dropper

Good advice above.

I also use a set up that Charlie Meek describes in his book.

I tie on a short piece of tippet - six inches or so - through the eye of my dropper fly, then put a small loop on...

Re: Hungarian partridge skins ?

I would buy one with the head. That way you'll get a lot more small feathers.

Re: Rods you regret buying...

All my top-of-the-line rods. IMHO, they're not worth the money and, with all the new models that have come out, my fly rods are worth very little now.

I should have bought mid-priced rods instead....

Re: Tippet rings or perfection loop?

I find that when I use loop-to-loop connections on tippets the loops lock.

Re: Orvis Stripping Finger Guards

I use them all the time. They don't last long, but they keep away those nasty cuts. I'll try the stripee, though.

Re: Newbie fly caster using bass bugs

Certainly shorten your leader, but I suspect you probably need an 8-weight rod and line.

Re: New to spey casting...advice on Sage TCX--7126-4

With your spey rod and Scandi line I would definitely use a 10' floating polyleader. Attached to the polyleader I'd add anywhere from 6' of mono - for bigger flies, up to size 6 - to 12' of mono for...

Re: On the idea that using UL fly rods demonstrates "expertise"

I will not use ultra light rods. Landing a fish with these rods will result in a much longer fight - which is what some anglers want - but also increased mortality rates. I want any fish I catch to...

Re: High end rods

High-end rods certainly look better, and to me that's important. We spend so much time with our fly rods it's great to have something that looks really, really good.

When it comes to fishing and...

Re: High end rods

I wouldn't again buy a high-end rod. (I have about 5 of them.) I just don't think they're worth the money, and that I'm better off buying two mid-priced rods rather than one high-end one.

Last...

Re: Casting fatigue question

Casting an 8-weight rod for 6 hours will make anyone tired and vulnerable to an injury.

A simple - but not - easy solution is to cast both right- and left-handed.

I'm a righty. When I wash...

Why aren't more trout anglers using double taper lines?

After many years of struggling with mending, I finally decided to try a double tapered line. What a difference. My mending improved dramatically. Now, I don't see how I'll ever go back to a WF line...

Re: "Must Have" books?

Some wonderful recommendations.

I'd also like to add Dynamic Nymphing, by George Daniel.

As for entomology, I just bought a very good book: Mayflies by Malcolm Knopp and Roger Cornier.

Re: Redington CT 3wt action compared to Orvis Sft?

Do you mean the Superfine Orvis? If so, I'd go with the CT and save your money. I have both rods and don't see/feel much of a difference.

Re: Recommend Spey DVDs and books

I would go with Simon's book. As for DVDs, I bit the bullet and bought Rio's Modern Spey Casting.

It's worth the money.
