Re: $200 Fly Rod Your Choice

I would either save up a few more bucks, or searched the big auction site, for a St Croix Imperial. The only other med/fast to fast action rod that I have cast that comes close to it (I have yet to...

Re: New Sling Packs Coming...

Now that I have a full season of use with it, I firmly believe that Patagonia's Vest Front sling is the design to beat right now. It has just enough room in the front to store all the things you need...

Re: Hardy Zenith 6 wt. and weighted flies

I picked up a 6wt Zenith about 2 months ago as a purely big bug/streamer rod. I've only had a chance to get out twice with it so far this season, but I have no doubt that is plenty of rod for...

Re: Fantasy Football League.

BooBirds2 has been on a tear lately, but knowing my luck coaches will start resting players for the plyoffs. The original BooBirds (my money league) has been quite pathetic this year :(

Me...

I wonder if the original intent of the snake was to get a free sandwich...like the mouse in the beer bottle, eh!

Re: Your Worst Fall

Hiking in the Alaska backcountry chasing silvers, took a trail down to a waterfall. Trail gave out under me and fell 18ft onto solid rock. Shattered elbow into 4 pieces. Didn't think it was that bad...

Re: Fantasy Football League.

Haha. Mrs. Boobirds was cursing at me this weekend too, but for a totally different reason! I've been real lucky the second half of this season. Brees finally returned to his former self, Lynch shows...

Re: #4-10'-Rod Advice

Very nice! A 10ft 4wt is next on my list for winter nymphing, and the H2 is first on my list. Going to wait until at least January to compare side by side with the Recon. What line are you using on...

Re: Fantasy Football League.

Same here, I'm doing two leagues for the first time and I've been stuck in the middle of the pack (and out of the playoffs) all year.

If we do this again next year (and I hope we do) I suggest...

Re: ideas for the best compact rod

Winston makes 4, 5, and 6 wt 9ft versions of the B3X in 5 piece models and they come in carbon fiber tubes. Super light but super expensive!

Re: #4-10'-Rod Advice

Carlos - It sounds like you have an interesting dilemma not faced by many folks here in the US or across the pond in Europe. I think there are a number of options out there that will come close to...

Re: Anyone try the new Air Lock strike indicators?

For those of you who use the thingamabobber but don't like how it kinks your leader you might want to try making an "easy adjust thingamabobber" or "thingamaleader". You basically thread your leader...

Re: #4-10'-Rod Advice

I was thinking the exact same thing, if you need to bomb a cast 80 plus feet then you want a 6wt... or better. Most 10ft 4wt rods are primarily designed and used for tight and slackline nymphing on...

Re: Orvis helios 2 question

No, not even close. A clouser is no different than any other heavily weighted fly. It comes down to line weight and opening up your cast. I've chucked clousers with rods made by St Croix, Sage, Loop...

Re: FS: St Croix Legend Elite 890

Pics added, and you can see the male ferules are still super shiny as it's on bee assembled 3 times. In addition to salmon and stealhead could make a great carp and LMD rod. One of the better 8wts...

Re: Set-Up For Bluegills

Since you didn't mention a budget there are a ton of choices out there. For bluegills I prefer a 3wt in the 8 to 8.5ft range, with my old Sage SPL 383 being my current favorite. The Redington Ct's...

Another good "true to weight" line that is easily found on your side of the pond is the Airflo Super Dry Elite. My 905 Winston really came alive with that line. Another good choice is the SA Textured...

Re: 7wt streamer rod

The Loop Opti Coast 796-4 was designed for exactly the type of fishing you are describing and would be $150 cheaper that a One. I would spend a few bucks more and get the Loop Cross S1 796-4, which...

Re: Beginner's fly rod quiver advice

Can't comment on using a 6wt in the salt other than to make sure the rod has saltwater safe hardware. I can say that if you are able to increase your budget into the $200-250 price range that opens...
