Re: Silver Fork of the American River

Do you have waders or are you fishing from shore? It can be tough to get into a good position if you aren't getting wet

Re: Silver Fork of the American River

Went out to the Silver Fork yesterday. 12 fish in just under 2 hours. Royal coachman with a weighted hare's ear as a dropper. Takes before 1:00 were on the nymph, takes after 1:00 were on the...

Re: Orvis Sonic Convert. Waders

Great idea!!! I always struggle with my Orvis Guide Wadders. I get them in the boot but it always bunches a bit and can be uncomfortable.

Re: Silver Fork of the American River

Nope, no fish in the Silver Fork or Caples Creek. Nothing to see here. Move along

No, really

Ok, ok. Maybe there are a few fish.

Truth be told, there are a ton of fish, even some pretty...

Re: Clearwater vs Access Rod and Reel Size Questions for Newbie

A lot of beginners want to get the fastest/most powerful rod they can get their hands on. But I have found that a slower action rod produces more feel and a better cast. While timing is more critical...

Re: Clearwater vs Access Rod and Reel Size Questions for Newbie

I am in the minority here, but I actually prefer my Clearwater rigs to the wife's Access rod. I have a hard time feeling the rod properly, its almost numb. While the fit and finish is far superior to...

Re: What are the sizes of trout?

I don't know, I do really love getting high up in the Sierras where an 8" fish is huge and a couple 5" is still considered a good day

Re: Non-intended fish on the fly.

Wife and I both caught big sculpin (like 4"-6") while trough fishing last summer. Mean little *******s

Re: Technique for dense foliage

Places like AnglersRoost sell 4wt two handed rods, might be something worth considering.

Re: Beware! They will even take your fishing gear as 'colateral.'

Yes, I agree they are. However, it is not my responsibility to educate them. It is 2015, information almost all things is readily available for easy consumption.

And the no option thing, this...

Re: Beware! They will even take your fishing gear as 'colateral.'

I am in the minority here, I guess. It is the one asking for the money that should ultimately be responsible for deciding that they can or can't afford. It is not anyone else business. If these...

Re: Carl fishing spots near Sacramento Ca

Oh and if you do hit the ponds at Natomas, I have heard that the carp are big time corn fans. Better bring out the yellow globugs

Re: Beginner's fly rod quiver advice

As someone who loves Orvis products, I would strongly recommend the clearwater line to you over the Access. Sure, the access has a bit nicer build quality to it (nicer hardware and higher quality...

Re: Carl fishing spots near Sacramento Ca

Lake Natomas, north side in the Mississippi Bar, there are a bunch of interconnected ponds that are suppose to be KILLER for carp. Never fished for carp and never fished Natomas in that area, so I...

The reason I bought Orvis when I was starting out was because they sold their warranty as an insurance policy. Say what you want about how you feel they are charging more because they know a certain...

Re: Adding a weedguard to a hard bug?

I have always wondered why they don't tie poppers and bugs upside down. With the hook around the back/out the top. If you used something with a big enough gap, it wouldn't be an issue and you could...

Re: Kayak fishing for beginners HELP!!

I have an 8' sit in that I have installed mounts and a fish finder. I like the smaller sizes myself; easier to carry (lighter), easier to store, and more nimble. It doesn't track as easily and isn't...

Re: Trying to understand the UL craze.

Right tool for the right job. My 1wt lands much softer than my 5wt. This is very important on those tiny high mountain Sierra streams, but then again the stream is 4' wide and the biggest fist is 10"
