Re: human hair

This is how I got my then 7 year-old into tying: I cut a bit of his hair, made a fly with it, took him on a small trip, tied the fly made with his hair at the end of my tippet, and caught a good size...

Loose reel seat

Hi All,
The reel seat on my Z-axis is loose. What glue do you guys recommend to re-adhere the reel seat?

Only fished for about 1.5 hrs before the weather got bad but caught plenty and rather large fish. See the pictures by following the link below and let me...

should I go or should I not?

Here is the forecast for one of my favorite winter spots here in CO (elevation just shy of 11,000 ft):

Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of snow after 11am. Increasing clouds, with a high near 20....

Re: How did you get "hooked" on flyfishing?

For me, my first intro to fly fishing was completely unexpected. A relatively new but good friend kept on talking about that fly fishing stuff. I knew very little about it and was under the...

Re: Which Sharkskin for a Scott S4?

My major issue with it is the noise. I just couldn't get over how noisy the Sharkskin is, and ultimately gave up on it. The feel in your hands is also very different, even without injuries...

And...

Re: Ice off

Jk, unfortunately, when icing is a real issue for me, dunking the rod in water will ensure that once out of the water the ice built up will be worse than before....

Tactics

Let me paint a scenario, one that I experience several times a year:

You plan a fishing day to a familiar place. You feel confident as you know what to take, mainly, you know what flies work...

Ice off

My most memorable fly fishing experiences, without a doubt, were during winter: Beautiful scenery, solitude, the fish are less wary, and they go for the smallest flies I can tie!
One very effective...

Re: Ants

As Paul says, bouncing an ant against a rock is a very effective way to fish that pattern here in CO. I even think that trouts might "hear" the bounce.

Also, the higher (elevation) the more...

Re: How to use flies in fly fishing?

Welcome Kid,
Fly fishing is one of the most rewarding activities I know of. For me, it combines technical stuff, skills, gear, and the outdoors.

That being said, the learning curve is steep,...
