This whole discussion just makes me want to try a longer rod and see if I like it. Looks like I'll start saving up for one.

Re: Is there a reason for a longer rod?

This is brilliantly written and explained.

So let me see if I'm understanding this properly. Given that the tip ads mechanical advantage at the expense of accuracy, would a heavier weight bring...

Re: Is there a reason for a longer rod?

This is fascinating. But now I have a followup question. We're talking about the advantages of a longer rod and there seem to be many, so let's talk about the advantages of a short rod. So why is 9"...

Re: Is there a reason for a longer rod?

You guys are convincing me to give a longer rod a try. I'd love to meet some of you out there on the river and take one for a spin.

Thanks for all the input!!

Re: Is there a reason for a longer rod?

That all makes perfect sense! So you find that extra foot really goes a long way? Would you ever go back to a 12' rod?

Is there a reason for a longer rod?

Hey all,

I live in Colorado and fish the usual streams. I've only been fishing for maybe 4 years so I haven't had a lot of experience with anything other than a 9' 5wt rod.

I feel like I can...

Re: Tippet rings?

I started using tippet rings last summer and loved them. Saved time on changing flies and I still have the same leader I started with last May. Instead of spending a bunch of money on leaders I can...

Re: Who still uses a vest?

I bought a pack and tried it for a day. Then returned it.

I use a $20 Pflueger vest and it's just fine. Eventually I'll get a fancy mesh one that's not so hot in the summer but I don't see the...

Re: Those clip-on magnifier things...

I gave up on 8x tippet and #24's. That's my solution.

Sorry that doesn't help, but my eyes have been bad since the 4th grade and they get worse every year. I'm not even 40 (but darn close) yet. At...

Re: Video History of the Adams Dry Fly

Wow! Watching him hand tie that fly was fascinating. And seeing the final knot was really cool.

I really want to try tying like that.

Re: Nobody here fishes unless it's summer?

I've been fishing on and off all winter long. Caught a few on midges and worms. Went out yesterday and caught three rainbows. There was even a mayfly hatch but it was too windy to tie on dries :(

Re: Books on Colorado trout streams

There's a tackle shop in Breck that has lot's of maps and a helpful staff. They marked on the map all the back spots, and out of the way places. I think if you go in there not acting like a newbe...

I'm sure all of you fine ladies and gentlemen on this forum know this rule, but here it is anyway.

If you see a car parked at the side of road, on a fairly quiet day, hardly any people, with...
