Re: Favorite number of rod pieces?
I voted 3 and if you bear with me, here is the reason why.
One piece rods are too long too fit in my car and expect passengers to be comfortable...especially rigged.:yikes:
Two piece rods are...

Re: Help with info on old glass rod.....
The first fly rod I learned on was the South Bend Classic ll 8.5 foot, which was labeled as a 7 weight. Besides the WF and DT 7 weight lines, I found the DT6 to work well. In my opinion, a WF8...

Re: Glass rods ?
I started with glass, switched to graphite, and now I'm mostly back to glass. When seeking a rod, you're likely to find the shorter vintage glass rods to be at least a 5 weight. For something less,...

Re: Need advice on new fly line.
I agree with the other posters regarding fly line. For inexpensive new fly line, I've lately been purchasing on-line from Old Tyme Fly Fishing. And I've been very satisfied. Their most expensive line...

Re: best value 8wt rod and reel?
I highly recommend the Albright XXT 8 weight at 149.99 and their GP reel at 39.99. I have the XXT 10 weight and it is a very powerful rod that will cast large bulky flies a long way. The XXT is a...

Re: Best Waders: Simms Vs. Orvis
I appreciate all of the knowledgeable information, personal experience, and honest opinions.
Over the years, I'd only wet waded with tennis shoes or the like. A couple of years ago I added a pair...

Re: Fishing Hat
As a teenager, I always fished with a Western stetson style hat...even in New England. Today, my usual fishing hat is a Tilley, but my Oilskin Madison Packable from Original Outback is the best for...

Re: Best Trout Rods ?
After consideration, my "best trout rod" would have to be my Tenkara Iwana. I can't possibly present a fly more delicately and with a better drift than any conventional rods. It allows me to fool...

Re: Rod length in relation to casting distance ?
Rod length plays some part in casting distance, as does line speed. With a rod rated for two weights you will notice that you can generally cast better further distances with the lower weight. The...

Re: Looking for line for a 7 wt.
I've tried several bass tapers, Cortland, Orvis, Rio, SA, Bass Pro and, other than the Bass Pro line, they've all worked well. Of them all, I have had the best success with the Cortland 333 Bass...

Re: Albright Products
I have several GP's and an XX. They are finished very nicely, especially for the price paid. Mine are all 2010 or 2011 models and I actually prefer them over rods costing much more. The GP (replaced...

Re: How far can you cast?
So much depends upon the tools in use (as well as the level of wind...of course). With my saltwater set up, I expect to cast more than 80' into the wind and more than 100' in my back yard. In...

Re: Odd or even number rods?

Re: Is an 8 wt too much rod for smallmouth?
Most of the smallmouth waters around me are clear and gravelly lakes that don't have a lot of thick vegetation. If I'm wading and looking for distance, I'll use a 10' 6 wt rod and #6-#12 woolly...

Re: Looking for Bass Rod
I generally use 7-8 weight fiberglass as bass rods. There's nothing like a 7 lb bass on fiberglass. In addition, the softer action actually helps the fish to remain hooked.
If I do feel the need...

For most freshwater fishing I use a fiberglass rod with DT. I've the habit of having too much line in the air and DT seems to compensate. In addition, 70-75 feet is about as far as I generally want...
