Re: It's That Time Again, What Was Your Best Fishing Experience of 2014?

I went out to my University's Geology Field camp for a month and a little, but the best part about it was we were on the Hoback River, just south of Jackson Hole, and in the heart of one of my...

Re: Doing a term paper on fly rods and the natural resources used in them

Quick update here:

Finished my first draft (20 pages including references). I'm looking for information on past retail prices of graphite fly rods. From 1974 to today. Every rod possible would be...

Re: Classic Trout Half Off

I love the slow action for smaller stuff and my 8'6 3wt has become one of my favorite go-to rods when I think I can handle the fish on the other side (I will undergun as often as possible). I've...

Re: Doing a term paper on fly rods and the natural resources used in them

To sort out any confusion: I would like to specify my topic and keep it as small as possible, and as modern as possible with an analysis of graphite fly rods only. Yes, obviously a book could be...

Doing a term paper on fly rods and the natural resources used in them

Not 100% sure where to start in figuring out where everything that makes up a fly rod comes from.

I would really like to get major detail on resin and carbon/graphite combinations and what it is...

Re: Orvis or Cabelas - Equiptment and Warranty

I will agree with the above post.

I'm on my third RLS 5wt. Love the rod. First one broke after about a year of hard use (think 5/7 days a week). Snapped while double hauling for no reason. I was...

Re: Long time Fisherman...New to the Fly

I started with a 9ft 5wt Cabela's RLS, and I would definitely recommend it.

Like everyone else is saying, 6wt should give you some wiggle room in terms of how big your fly is. If you're into lake...

Re: How old is your 'fishing car?'

I believe I will be getting my hands on a 74' 260z soon, and will turn that into my "fishing car." :)

Re: Beginners Luck

That's a beaut! You ruined his fly fishing experience, as he'll never be happy hooking the regular fish anymore!

Re: Paddleboard Fly Fishing for bass or pike or any fish?

I think a paddleboard sounds just as useful as a kayak, easier to stand on as well. Maybe a little slower. In the flats though, I would definitely go with a paddleboard.

Re: Starting a club at my University!

Hey Nick! Awesome to hear of some other clubs from around the nation. We do have a bass tournament team here, or we did, but they haven't been active of late. My co-founder and I actually were...

Re: Major Flooding in Michigan

I'm surprised the Huron River Drive didn't flood like it usually does. We haven't had that much rain, and the melt didn't blow it up as much as I expected.

Update #2

OP here with another update.

I gave you all an update at the beginning of the school year, and I thought I would give you another one, here at the end of the year.

I have been extremely happy...

Re: Soon I'll Go From This................

I see 9/10 days with lows higher than freezing. It means that winter should have gone away a long time ago.

Re: Spring

I'm in SE Michigan and everything is still frozen up. Usually by this time rivers are starting to heat up.

I think we're just going to jump from winter to summer.

Re: Best line for a Redington CT 3wt

I put the cheapest of the Allen lines on it, WF3, and it seems just dandy for dries and small streamers.
