Re: I prefer 2pc rods....... Am I a dinosaur?

The last Sage rod that had a choice of 2 piece and 4 piece was the Z-Axis.

I bought a 2 piece 586 Z-Axis when I could have had either two or four pieces.

I don't think Sage has offered a choice...

Re: Orvis's New Nipper

Boy, is that true.

So true that when I saw this I thought, "What pointy thing?"

I'd forgotten that the Abel nipper has one. (Yes, I confess. I have an Abel nipper.)

Re: Orvis's New Nipper

Orvis' web site still says this, however:

"Abel Nipper and Lanyard
When you want the ultimate these are the best nippers made. Made in USA."

Re: Pricing of Premium Rods and Equipment - Yikes!!

I posted this originally in another thread.
It's about some research that shows what happens when you tell people that superior equipment will help them perform better.

Can performance brands...

Re: Pricing of Premium Rods and Equipment - Yikes!!

I look at newly-released cameras/fly rods/cars/tools/etc. the same way.

"Will this new one make my life easier in some way?"
"Will it let me do something better than the things I already have?"...

Re: A new beach side 'Munchie?'

They're tasty for a reason.

A 1/4 cup handful has 8 teaspoons of sugar (29 grams).

Real sugar buzz-bombs. I like them anyway.

Re: Break a rod . . . in anger?

Haven't broken a rod in anger ever.

Rory may have been in trouble. He can't replace that club during the round, so whatever club it was is now not available to him.

Re: Sage One durability issues

Not an 8 wt., but I broke the tip on a 486 ONE. The part that bothers me is that I have no idea how it happened.

I finished fishing and was walking back along an open path, no brush, trees, etc....

Re: What Did You Buy Today?

BOA repair kits for my Korkers boots.
Studded felt bottoms for the same boots.
Pretty boring, actually.

Re: After the 4th (in pursuit of the rainbow)

I had both a TXL 00 wt. and a TXL-F 4 wt. with me. I had intended to use the 4 wt. on a larger stream and the 00 wt. on this one.

I started with the 4 wt. on the larger stream and forgot to switch...

I'm 69 and still like them.
My Basset Hounds, age 11, have a different view of things.
Around here the fireworks started Friday night and continued until last night (so far).

After the 4th (in pursuit of the rainbow)

Having skipped fishing over the long weekend, I went back to the mountains to a place where I expected to find some wild rainbows. I hadn't been there since last October.

On Sunday, my wife and I...

Re: Before the 4th

The 6' 1 wt. isn't new. However, when I changed spots I also changed rods - to a 6'10" 4 wt TXL-F. That rod is new. I built it over the Winter.

I like it quite a lot. I really didn't think of 4...

Before the 4th

The lowland streams remain too warm to fish for trout. So, back to the mountains in the hope that they stay fishable for a while.

Started here.

She said,...

Re: Tippet shelf life

Tie a 'wind knot' in your tippet and see how easily it breaks at the knot. If the tippet won't stand a reasonable tug with a wind knot (which you will often get without knowing it) then the tippet is...
