Heck, Ard, bring Boss along! It's not all that difficult, or expensive. He'll have the stews, er, flight attendants charmed in no time!

Re: #7 line on a #8 rod..

It's called "under-lining" a rod, a common practice. It's supposed to speed up the recovery, something you'll learn about.

I say run with it to learn the basics. Shouldn't hurt anything, and a...

Re: Visibility after dark...

Fished with a guide once at night. He knelt down, and could see the fly profile on the water.

Mind your P's and Q's when casting- it should be all by feel anyway.

Set the hook and let her...

I use a different brand 5/6 wt here in Colorado, like Bigfly says, it's a gas.

For line, contact Steve Godshall. He's the guru, do it right the first time.

Re: Jeep Wrangler Pickup Truck

Anybody who calls that a serious work truck has never done serious work.

Looks ridiculously long, and as with most vehicles nowadays, will have too much cheap plastic for any real use.

Re: Sage X sweeps IFTD 2016 rod categories

I still say that the cast is only the beginning. And casting at a show, or a shop parking lot tells you very little, if anything. And only if you are extemely skilled. Go to the water, tie on a fly...

Re: Whitewater waders...

LL Bean has a good rep here, personally I'm a Simms fan.

Summertime, I just wear wet wading shoes, much cooler.

For boots, or shoes, or any footwear, I have 3 requirements: fit, Fit, and...

Re: Looking for a new fishing ride. Anyone tried this one?

Said it before, I'll say it again. For that kinda money:

EarthRoamer XV-HD (

Burns more fuel, so it's gotta be better!

Re: Rods you regret buying...

For me, it wasn't the first rod, it was my first guide trip. I hate that guide to this day.

Re: Palomar Knot - Best knot for big game fish?

A good, strong knot, agreed.

For tiny hooks on soft- mouthed trout, not needeed, IMO.

They also seem to "use up" a lot of line. Meaning, I cut off a lot of tippet after tying on a Palomar...

My Hardy Zenith 905 is a streamer chuckin' mosheen! Albeit a very different price point than the rods in the OP......:D

Re: I am on the verge of quitting

Ah, yes, get used to these. You never really outgrow them. I disagree with Bigfly, there are such things as wind knots, IMO. It can't be me! It would be a worthwhile government study to find out how...

Re: You may not be able to go far ... Electric cars.

I'll throw another monkey wrench in the works: The Long Tailpipe. We're sold a buncha goods as all "green", when the manufacture of said thing actually does more harm than it's use supposedly saves....

Re: Black Canyon of the Gunnison-Guided prices$$$?

Colorado is a destination fly fishing spot, and the prices reflect that. It's cheaper to fly to Alaska, stay at a nice lodge, and keep fish.

All that being said, I'd still love to float the Black...

Re: The Trout are A-Quakin' in Their Fins !!!!

Congratulations; well earned, I'm sure.

I recently worked with a fellow who claimed that retirement was boring. I cannot envision that.
