Re: Streamer Fishing Issue

I have been using the loop knot to great effect...I won't fish a streamer without one.
Even use them on super small nymphs, although it takes some practice to make micro loops.
Also use it on big...

Re: Streamer Fishing Issue

I also bury the rod tip in the water and keep it there until they are on......
Learned it...

Re: What would you folks do?

By all means go.....
Get bear spray, and the food canister for the trip.
Counter balance if you hang food, they know how to "untie" the rope if you just tie it off somewhere....
We are twelve...

Re: Switch rod uses?

I find that if you know how to cast correctly...ie. keeping your elbow down and not reaching out...most can single hand rollcast and waterload just fine.
Wouldn't go all day the first few times, but...

Re: Pat's Rubberlegs

My take on popular flies....(And I've fished Pat's for many years.)
"The more fish see them, they less they eat them....."
There are places the fish will swim away from the store tie.
Don't follow...

Re: Few people handle and release trout properly.

Cochise, it's not extremism in the East from what I hear, with stockers getting plucked from the river as fast as the state can put them in...
And certainly the West can't keep up with the teeming...

Re: Few people handle and release trout properly.

I've seen it's a sliding scale for fishermen....
From wack'em and eat'em all, to those that quit fishing out of respect for them.
I recently went afoul with a member here, by suggesting that they...

Re: Hot Creek/Owens River area questions

It's actually all of the above.
And TCatcher is correct, no need to get in the water at all.....very bad form to wade...
Drop a knee, and fish the side you're on... short roll casts, or Ohand...

Re: On the defamation of streamer fishing, and our duty to trout.

I have confessed to being a streamer junky...
I'd never say to someone, don't fish a streamer.
But I also fish dry, and can bobber nymph like a big dog.
My Czech style is working too...
So I have...

Re: On the defamation of streamer fishing, and our duty to trout.

Sorry if I am confusing...
If I only fished a streamer, there are times I would go fishless.
And the same for a dry..
The trick is to to understand which to do when...
Every day is a new day, and...

Re: On the defamation of streamer fishing, and our duty to trout.

I have learned to let the water tell me how to fish.....
It's not always a dry...that does the trick.
My nick name comes from the the day I was asked what I would tie on....
I said "something...

Re: On the defamation of streamer fishing, and our duty to trout.

Ahhhh..The rational fisherman, truly a rare creature.....
My time on the water has shown this to be a scorned approach...we are see ourselves as a superior, but can't understand why mere fish outwit...

Re: On the defamation of streamer fishing, and our duty to trout.

The Henry's Fork is a very famous piece of water...
The Salmon fly is the biggest bug that is served by nature for the season, on this water.
Big wild fish know this and are ready to dig in for...

Re: On the defamation of streamer fishing, and our duty to trout.

Creek, my only thoughts.... we should spread our pressure out over a larger area of water, or it may seem that there are fewer fish in the stream....they will learn...and be hesitant to eat what they...

Re: Broke my Fly Rod

Many, if not most of the broken rods sustain a previous bruise from casting split shot.
Not saying you did......just a thought.
Look close with a magnifier near the break if you cast weight.
You...
