Re: Exotic continued

University of Miami (where I want to college) has lots of them that swim through the canal that runs by the business school. They are not actually that harmless I think. I've heard they are very...

Here's a monster Mayan I grabbed on a crab fly in the canals. They don't get any bigger than this.

Re: New to fly fishing and in need of help

Here's a quick tip for starting out. Fly fishing is much different than conventional fishing. In order to be successful at catching fish, you will need to be successful at the basics (casting, fly...

Re: best crappie fly ?

Anything chartreuse or green will work well. Buggers, clousers, that sort of thing. They aren't too picky and most streamer/wet flies should work pretty well. I have great luck on crappie the other...

Re: Freaky Finned Carp and a few other fish

Personally, I'm more amazed that you're actually ABLE to hold that thing with one hand. That is a serious pig, I'd be screaming for the camera man to take the shot already.

Re: Exotic continued

If you get a warm sunny day you will be able to catch barracudas too. That was always my main target in the canals. They wait right by the shore, head slightly tilted up. They move so fast that you...

Re: Fly Shop Needed

I'm not saying the harbor islands are pointless, but the places I've been to on the mainland by the bay (such as castle island) are definitely not conducive to fly fish from. The islands, yes, they...

Re: Fly Shop Needed

The bay does have good fishing, but it is hard to access if you are an casual recreational fly fisherman. First off, fly fishing the bay from land is pretty uncommon here, as the area surrounding...

I don't think itchmesir was saying that the forum was for old men, he was simply describing the conversational setting and mood of a forum like this. This forum gives us all an opportunity to sit...

Re: Exotic continued

theboz might know more about largemouths in the area. I spent most of my time in Miami fishing a portion of that canal that didnt seem to have largemouth OR peacocks, but I did catch a largemouth...

Re: Exotic continued

From the perspective of someone who has spent a great deal of time in Miami, this sounds very funny. The fish in the canals are no doubt beautiful and a dream to fish for, but the canals...

Re: Fly Shop Needed

Not as easy as it sounds, sadly. Even finding an area to launch a float tube, or finding a decent body of stillwater that's not in a residential backyard can be next to impossible.

The google map...

Re: I'm so tired of getting ripped off!

The problem is that buying anything SPECIFICALLY designed and labelled for fly fishing means it costs 5x more. Try shopping at your local craft store next time. Orvis sells small 4inch bricks of...

Re: Yellow perch

Yeah I've been getting mine on my 2wt. They are a blast. Interesting fish to hold as well. They skin is very rough, like holding a sandpaper cylinder.

Re: Yellow perch

I've been catching a good amount of perch by me lately. They don't seem to be too picky or shy about fly selection. I think I've got most of them on a briminator or MM minnow, but it doesn't seem...
