Re: Finding new waters

I also use my handheld garmin, the program that goes with it on the computer is real good. Find a spot, plug a waypoint then download to the hand held device.

Re: St. Croix Avid 6'6" 4 weight

I've found that sometimes a short rod is not always the best choice for small streams. A little longer and you can reach a little further to high stick, or roll cast are easier with more length,...

Re: Scott radian 7wt

Have not fished the radian but have been using S4's for years now and they are awesome rods, fast action yet a very smooth feel when casting. Not like some fast action that feel like a broomstick....

Re: Do you change your technique for stillwater windy conditions?

I think fish will focus on insects that get blown out of overhang. They will even hang out under brush waiting for insects to fall. Especially bluegill. Try a sidearm cast up under some overhang.

Re: Keeping dry flies dry?

I use frogs fanny before i make the first cast while the fly is dry, but after a while it will get wet, especially if you catch several fish. I will just blow on the fly then add more frogs fanny.

Re: Looking to add another rod...

Personally i think that a 3 wt is the best size rod for dry flies, especially small flies 16 and under. I have a scott G2 8'8" 3 wt. and love it.

Re: Pointers

There is a lot of info listed, and some good info as well. Leaders can be overwhelming. For a beginner, start out easy, buy a few premade knot less leaders in a few sizes. Learn casting with a little...

St croix are good rods if that is your concern, the legend series is made in Wisconsin , I used to have several st croix rods that I fished with for years and they have a great feel.

Re: Finding new waters

I always used delorme myself, find a stream on it and head that way. I would always highlight the stream after I fished it.

Re: whiting hackle prices

I thought keough was good for streamers but didn't think they had the quality of whiting. Keough was a better hackle than Metz though.

Re: Vapen or Passport....need help!

You could easily get an S4 used for the price you listed. I have seen several on eBay for around $300. An S4 in a 9.5 foot 5 wt would be really sweet. I have an S4 in a 4 wt that I was going to sell...

Re: Vapen or Passport....need help!

Not sure what you want to spend but I had a Scott S4 in a 5 wt that I used the galloups streamer line along with rio gold line and it did great for streamers. Very fast action.
