Re: Looking for used soft action rod

I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner, but The Angler's Roost has both blanks and complete rods in IM6 graphite (which, combined with whatever taper they're using creates a pretty slow...

Re: If you like a glass of wine be careful what you choose.

Well Fred, it's a good thing that we here in Oregon have loads of good local wine that is reasonably reasonable (in price) and (hopefully) not processed in the same way. That report is kind of scary...

Re: Looking for used soft action rod

Why are you set on a 9' rod? Is it because that's what the marketing tells you what you need? Or is it based on personal experience? In all honesty, there are so few situations where the extra foot...

Re: Looking for used soft action rod

The aforementioned CT is a real steal of a deal. Sweet casting rod for pennies.

If you're looking to dip your toes into the realm of fiberglass, there are tons of options out there. The...

Re: What have you been tying today?

Today was the first day this year that I spotted "Nessie" my local work pond largemouth (she's grown quite a bit since last year, especially for how small that pond is), so I tied up these hoping to...

Re: April Vokey

I guess we'll have to wait a couple of decades to see if she's still successful, right?

The bottom line in this country (and pretty much everywhere) is that sex sells. April is a very attractive...

Re: Fishing Streamers, Where & When;

what a great post. Having entered into the streamer fishing foray in full about a year ago (dabbled in the dark arts previously, but recently went all in). I love learning all sorts of new (and...

Re: Fly Fishing The Surf

You nailed it, never turn your back on the ocean. That always seems to be when a sneaker wave comes up. In another month or two up here, we should be getting some of the larger surf perch coming in...

Re: Popular flies you don't like?

It's almost more of a Steak and Eggs theory...(although it might depend on the size of said streamer).

don't worry about the 8wt, just shorten your leader and leaver your 5 & 6x at home. Just...

Re: Popular flies you don't like?

There are a couple for me, I rarely use a standard elk-hair caddis only because any x-caddis outperforms it (for me). I also rarely use a standard Adams. I just have too many of my own flies to try...

Re: Fiberglass confusion

As mentioned previously, put a 7wt line line on it before you try anything else. Being that it's likely much slower than what you're likely accustomed to, you'll need to drastically slow dow your...

Re: Raptor identification

I'm a bit rusty on specifics between the two other than size, but depending on size, it looks like either a Cooper's Hawk or a Sharp Shinned Hawk with the Cooper's being the larger of the two. To...

Re: Other Fish than Trout Photos

I think so. I do think it's rather interesting how they put a bounty on a native predator, yet the introduced (and equally voracious) predator gets a pass (smallmouth).

Re: Preferred method for trout

Mine changes (and has changed) over the years, even varies daily.

Some days, I get out to the river and just feel like stalking fish sipping on dead stuff tight to the bank (keep in mind that my...

he hung out for probably 2-3 minutes. Long enough for me to fumble around with my phone (and not drop it into the river), then he left and came back...pretty cool experience.

Re: Measurements

This whole competition thing is funny. Who are we really competing with? our buddies? internet "experts"? both? Personally, I like to catch fish that pull hard. If that means the 14" redside that...

Re: Fly Fishing The Surf

This last summer I actually did much more surf fishing than in any years past. It's loads of fun and even though the fish I'm likely to catch are small, they sure do put up a good tussle for their...

Re: Other Fish than Trout Photos

Agreed. According to everything I've read, that's true...although given my more recent proclivity towards stripping streamers, my "by-catch" has moved from Whitefish to Northern Pikeminnow.
