Re: Click Pawl Reel for 6 weight?

Re: Do you still have the first fly fishing outfit you ever bought?

I still have my first setup, a Reddington 9 foot 5wt, medium action rod and a System1 click and pawl reel.

Used it for 10+ years and caught lots of fish with it and it is still my backup rod/reel...

Re: Finding A Big Brown Trout

My cousin lives just outside of Twin Bridges, MT and he has a little tributary off of the Beaverhead that runs through his property. It isn't quite so small that you can jump across it but it...

Re: Are Fly Vests a Thing of the Past?

Hi Dean,

Re: Are Fly Vests a Thing of the Past?

I had a fishing vest for years and last year my wife bought me a Fishpond shoulder/sling pack. Out of appropriate marital deference, I used the sling pack this year on our annual trip to Montana. It...

Re: the realm of scotch

Was a big Scotch drinker for a long time, but have been transitioning to Bourbon more and more.

Definitely prefer Highlands Scotch over all others. My preference is for port-wood finished Scotch...

Re: Going old school: Sage 505L or Orvis CFO III?

Mechanically, is there anything I should look for in either the CFO or Sage 505 that would raise a concern about its reliability? I don't plan on buying one without being able to check it out first...

Re: Going old school: Sage 505L or Orvis CFO III?

Thanks for the input. Obviously the Sage reels pre-date the internet so I can't find a lot of spec info on those reels. I didn't think about the weight of the reel and since modern rods are so much...

Going old school: Sage 505L or Orvis CFO III?

Looking for a relatively old school click and pawl drag reel and looking at either the Sage 505L or the CFO III.

Any thoughts, comments, advice on deciding between these two?

Anything I should...

Re: SA's Sharkskin lines

I have been using 5WF Sharkskin line for the past 2 seasons. It is certainly expensive line and I would not have bought it on my own (it was a birthday gift).

As others have said, it is noisy....

Re: Spine on rods

As an avid golfer, this is a religious discussion for golfers as well as fishermen. All graphite rods (or golf shafts) will have a spine. For some it is more pronounced than others, but ALL will have...

Re: what are your priorities when buying a rod?

do you find fly rods generally too expensive?
Yes. I also am a competitive amateur golfer and find golf clubs to be ridiculously priced as well. I am more than happy to buy closeout gear or even...
