Re: Little tricks to share

I fish a lot of salt water but this works just as well on lakes and streams. It is amazing to see so many people lay the rod and the reel down on the sand or on the rocks because they can't find any...

Re: Ever get one of those knots.....

I often wonder why I can't tie a fly on that will hold as well as some of the knots I get in my leader. Why just yesterday that would have been two more trout I would have caught.

Re: How many flies?

The biggest problem I have found is how much all those tiny little flies and boxes weigh when you load up the vest. Maybe it is old age and the shoulders are getting weak. I think for me and a lot of...

Re: correct reel and rod wt for reds need help pls!

An 8 wt or 9 wt would be fine, it just comes down to what feels better to you and finding a good deal.

As far as Bass Pro, a lot of the people who work there are there not because of there...

Re: Playing fish - some observations

Very interesting observation. I remember watching a Demo by Andy Mill on how he applies maximum pressure when he fights a fish and how he leaned how to apply the pressure by experimenting using a...

Re: Tieing fly line loop to new leader

The Perfection Loop is more than you will need. When tied properly that loop will hold. There are so many things that will give way to a big fish before the Loop will break. A 30 or 40 lb Butt...

Re: Feather Craft Furled Leaders

I am curious to hear what if any impact the rooster tail would have on the cast or the catching of a fish.

Not sure it would spook a fish any more than any other cast being lifted of the water. I...

Re: Fly Line Question

Just do a search for loop to loop knots on line. Lots of animated demos to show how to make the proper connect. You will find lots of other useful knots as well.

Re: Fishing Terminology

The Russian - I'm On I'm Off (say it fast). We use this a lot when Striper fishing.

Re: What do you consider a "caught" fish?

I am in the same boat as standman, I voted for fish in hand, but my friends and I all have set the rule of thumb as " once the leader is within a foot of the tip of the rod, it is a caught fish.

I am a big fan of the Mustad Signature Hooks, big difference in the Signature and the regular Mustad. Price is a big reason I use them simply because the Owner and Gamakatsu are just to expensive....

For salt I use Ande Clear, 4 feet of 30 lb and 2 ft Ande of 25 with small Bimini Loop ( just fun to make them, not really needed ) and my tippet is 20 lb trik fish.

I don't use floro, don't see...

Re: New Knot - Give this a try

I think the best and easiest knot out there is the Davy knot for trout and really small flies. Works just as well on big flies also.
