Re: Big Game

Excellent bull! Hunting in Alaska would be a dream for me.

About all I can say for a story is just a getting a four point whitetail for the freezer Sunday evening. One of those that just came...

Re: Whitetail deer reports?

I'll see what I can do. We have a couple on a cell phone, and maybe we can take a few while it hangs.

Re: It's LUNCH TIME!

I'm normally not out on the water all day except for vacation, and then we're normally camped on the water. it's easy enough to head in and fix something. We often make hoagies out of cold cuts and...

Re: All I want for Christmas is....

Since I'm in the monastic life, we really don't do much of the gift giving thing--the focus is on the religious aspects and the feasting.

My Dad and sister do, however, insist on getting me a...

Re: Whitetail deer reports?

Tagged a four pointer this evening.

My buddy had filed his buck rage in muzzleloader season and thought he saw one moving my way. He couldn't tell if it had antlers. I fired not long after and we...

Re: Best Online Instruction Videos?

Silver Creek dun good.

When you learn the basic cast and get to the point of learning the double haul, that video by Mel Krieger will be excellent. Makes it simple.

One tip: pantomime.

Re: Tell me a little about trout fishing where u are ?

Missouri's Ozarks are the closest to me. It has several parks as well as some smaller streams and a few rivers. Taneycomo is world class, but not rustic.

Re: Back On The Forum;

Gotta get those pics, Ard.

Till then, some of us won't be able to get over the suspicion you were really bait fishing in a koi pond.

Re: Whatever happened to mridenour?

Nice post, Mike.

In all honesty, though, I don't remember any sort of problem and always liked your posts.

Of course, a man who understands the secret of the Ozarks is already up a point to...

Re: Whitetail deer reports?

I should have mentioned it, but I have been told there is a big-bodied buck showing up on some property we own south of town. His tines are short, but a bulky deer.

I suspect it might be one I saw...

Re: Fly fishing as church...

It wasn't my intention to make a pun originally, but I decided to leave it.

As for Norman, they don't come any better.

Whitetail deer reports?

Anyone having any luck?

I had a misfire in muzzleloader season and saw nothing yesterday with a bow.

I have been seeing deer all over in the fields--it looks like the hormone levels are what...

Re: Fly fishing as church...

As they should be....

A passage or two I play with is towards the end of John's gospel. Peter stands up and says..."I am going fishing." And the other apostles immediately decide to go as well. As...

Re: Fly fishing as church...

As a Benedictine monk, I can give you all kinds of angles on this.

Survey a culture that has a hunting and fishing element and you'll discover a religious connection. Sheer materialism just...

Re: Big trout surrounded by little trout: what do you do?

Silver said it well.

I'd go big, too.

A Hornberg fly might be a good option. Something that sticks out and looks like a big, easy meal. A big fish has to be rewarded for the large amount of...

Re: Names that demand a fly to be tied for them

Great flies!

I particularly like the December Pumpkin for my own purposes. Looks good as a bass streamer or a sculpin for one of those big Brown trout I want to nab on vacation.

Re: 35 mm film canisters alternatives?

x2.

Another thumbs up for diabetic test strip containers.

There small containers with compartments in the crafts sections of walmart. I have several that fit in a vest.

Names that demand a fly to be tied for them

Every once in a while, I think of a cool name for a fly that does not yet exist, so far as I know.

Here are a few that are still in the works:

1.) Prairie Fire--something orange and chartreuse...

Re: Stirred up a little ruckus at the polls today

I'm hearing I won.

It wasn't the right way to fight the battle, though. A county election official isn't exactly the Gestapo, though there was a problem. She probably meant well.

Stirred up a little ruckus at the polls today

During my time there, I had a fairly sharp exchange with an official over a voter's guide.

Several people were told they couldn't consult them, and I contested it. I demanded to see the law and...

first fish-Redear sunfish at my local lake here in NE Kansas. it was actually the result of a bad cast. it barely made the water and was closer to a pileup at your feet than an actual cast. However,...

Re: What to do with flies you don't use

That's me! It's worse now, in some ways. Sometimes, I just get lazy and start slapping fuzz and feathers on a hook knowing it'll work. The phrase "the fish don't care" is both a blessing and a curse.
