Re: Forbidden Gadgets

JP, you might want to look at Air-lock Indicators instead of Thingama Bobbers.
They are a bit more in price, but they don't crimp your leader. I like them much better.

Re: All I want for Christmas is....

Fly tying supplies! That's what I answered when my wife asked. " Order what you need " she answered, with emphasis on need. I will be well stocked for the winter's tying.

Re: Aluminum V-Hull on the River?

Make sure your boat has flotation foam that is in good shape. If it is water logged or missing, you could lose your whole rig. I have a 14' semi-V that someone had removed the foam. I used the 1"...

Good on ye. :D
I read most all the output of this forum and filter as necessary. If we all thought the same way, stagnation would set in and advancement would cease.

Re: Allen Fly Fishing - Free Cash! first 50 people

I received my conformation last night. I had ordered some Allen hooks last week, so I will check my stash again and top it off for winter tying.
Thanks for the early Christmas present, Justin.

Re: Furled leaders and tippet rings... What am I missing here?

Before going to furled leaders, I was using 7' or 9' tapered mono leaders, with 2 tippet size steps tied on. If I got a tree fish, breaking off usually curled the leader. Plus straightening a new...

Re: Furled leaders and tippet rings... What am I missing here?

Sorry if the term "dog in this fight " was seen to be inappropriate. Down here it is used instead of the word debate. As to personal attacks, I haven't seen any in this thread. Just some strong...

Re: Trying to understand the UL craze.

The smallest rod we own is a Redington 8'-6" 3wt. My wife only uses her 5wt, because she can cast it best. We only fish warm water lakes and ponds using barbless hooks and strictly catch and release....

Re: Furled leaders and tippet rings... What am I missing here?

I personally don't have a dog in this fight, but I like furled mono leaders. Have tried the furled thread and didn't care for them. I strictly fish warm water and mostly ponds and lakes. I can drop a...

Re: Are you a Maximizer or a Satisficer?

As a warm water only fly fisher, I consider myself an " optimizer ", doing the best with what I have. My wife and I have 4 fly rods between us. One Cabela's Three Forks and 3 Redington CT's all...

First catfish on flyrod.

Been restoring a 1971 Evinrude 9.5hp and took it to Moss Lake for a test run. While there, my wife and I, did a little fly fishing. On my third cast, I had a hookup and a wild run. I new it wasn't a...

Re: Old/New Fly Ride

sunshine, you can't stand on this bow the way I configured it. It's just for storage. At our age, with our wobbly legs, standing up and casting from a boat is not an option.:icon_wink. A casting deck...

Re: Old/New Fly Ride

It was an interesting project. I learned a lot. The only tool I had to buy was a two hand rivet set. The trailer was a bit short, so I extended the tongue by two feet. Built a new winch post, new...

Re: Old/New Fly Ride

roguebum, it can be a hassle at times. That is one reason for the seat slides. We tend to let our line drop in the water. The stripping apron was more trouble than it was worth. Not perfect, but we...

Re: Old/New Fly Ride

All wood was sealed with 4 coats of marine grade spar varnish on all sides. I spent many hours on line asking questions. Rather do it right even if it cost more.

It doesn't show in the pics, but I have removable 1/4" rubber matting on the floor. Cut's down on the noise and glare. You can see a bit of it in this pic.

Old/New Fly Ride

My wife and I are strictly warm water fly fishers. Until now we have been limited to a local pond in a two person pond boat or bank fishing at lakes.
About 7 months back I did some trading with a...
