Re: Ross Reach line question.

I don't know your experience level, so I'll speak noob-to-noob. I say stick with a switch line on a switch rod. Trying to learn with cross-matched equipment sounds like a recipe for...

Re: Korker & Simms Wading Boots - BOA lace system

I have BOA's on my Simms G4's and like them. I can really crank down on them and get the boots tighter than with laces, a big help for those of us with narrow feet. I only got them in June '15, so...

Re: September trip thoughts

Plan for cold, no matter where you go in the Rockies. No matter when you go in the Rockies, I've camped in June in Gunnison, CO. and saw my breath freeze inside the tent.

The dampness y'all get...

Re: HBD jaybo41

I'll join the belated HBD crowd, sir.

I believe I caught some fish on your flies whilst fishing with Boss? If so, Thank You.

John Barr's patterns are money, my fav is the Slumpbuster.

Re: 3 Weight line or 4 Weight?

I don't like under-or-over-lining a rod. If you think you need to do such, you need a different line, or rod, IMO.

My suggestion: get a WF3F line and see how you like it.

Re: Should I get a three weight???

Got a tube with a "bump" on the end so you can leave the reel on. Best way to go, IMO.

Re: Thomas & Thomas Spire.

The 8'9" length seems to be a sweet spot. One day, years ago, some buds and I played with 3 rods; all 5wt., same make. One 8'6", one 8'9", one 9ft. We started the day indy nymphing, switched to...

Re: Should I get a three weight???

A 3wt. is one of those multi-tool rods, capable of more than one would think. Mine is a TFO BVK, I might upgrade to a Scott this year. Bought for small (6"-8") fish on small creeks (8-12 ft. wide),...

Re: Taught or self taught?

As I read it, the poll was how would I like to learn? Money is no object, right?

This is why I replied 50/50. Fact is, I'm a lousy teacher of myself. I've met people who can just figure stuff out...

Re: A question to those who don't tie...

Just not enough TIME!!!!

Also, as my fishing and casting abilities have improved over the years, I don't lose as many flies as I used to.

OK, I'll chime in: Just turned 51, been flyfishing 16 years now. Why is a story waaaayyyyyyyyy too long and BORING for this medium. Mercedes, in my avatar pic, just turned 10. Fishing is her FAVORITE...

Re: Imperial or now-on-sale legend ultra or VXP

A friend has the Imperial, and I'm flat out impressed. A lotta rod for the money.

Whenever a "which rod" thread comes up, I recommend the Imperial and the TFO BVK. Both outperform their price.

Re: Experiences with Articulated Streamers and Releasing Fish?

My limited (last couple of years) experience with streamers has shown that the take is downright violent. No little nibbles or soft stuff. A flat-out CHOMP that sucks the whole fly in. Put the hook...

Re: Wading Boot Color

Color? Meh! The whole objective is to beat 'em up so bad you can't tell what color they ever were. You'll spook the fish with walking noise long before any color comes into play, IMO.

Traction...

flynnster,

Fish it as you would a nymph. I've caught fish on similar flies indy nymphing and as a dropper off of a dry. I believe they're supposed to imitate an emerging Caddis, that's how I used...
