Re: Animas in Durango

Walk Duranglers and visit with them or call them before you go. Special stretch personally for me where you will be fishing. Caught my first trout on a fly on the bank below the park.

Re: Two flies my 5-year-old designed!

This is so true. If you want to try something different next time, take them to the stream with you and have them help you catch some of the bugs we use to fish with. Bring minnow nets and small cups...

Re: west elk wilderness

In "Elky" areas, almost any hopper dropper would work well. I like to throw an Adam's Irresistible or size 12-14 black mayfly and then have a dropper 12" down consisting of a small Hare's ear, CJ,...

Re: I was hiking along, minding my own, business, when .......

This is why I fly fish and hike with people scared of heights. They would have been to afraid to go over the edge  and I could have just let the bear chase them back up the trail.

All...

Re: Entry level salt water

I would start with Allen on an entry level saltwater setup. You could catch a bunch of fish on this for $100. Go 9' 8w. Great customer service. I personally would say the best customer service I have...

Re: Flies for Rio Grande near Creede?

I would also add hoppers to the list. Saw a bunch of them last week while we were there so they are already out. They are easy to tie so I wouldn't buy them if you tie any flies at all.

Re: South Central Colorado Help

The Rio fished really well last week and water flows are perfect for floats but if you wade fish like I do it can be a little rough if you aren't careful. Stick to the banks and up to about 10 feet...

Re: How do you identify the bugs ?

The question is a good one!

I can say caddis, mayfly, stone-fly when I see one but that is about the extent of my bug knowledge. Having somewhat limited bug knowledge forces me to do the two...

I have fished this area a couple of times and had some tough days, and some really great days! Always catch some fish though. The South Fork of the Rio and the upper San Juan should be wadeable in a...

Re: heading to Roslin, CO

You are 5 minutes from the Blue river. Use the 4wt. Keep to the banks as the flows are really strong right now. Cutthroat anglers is a good resource.

Re: SILVERTHORNE/Breckinridge/Vail/Copper mtn

If you end up with a guide at Cutthroat anglers, ask for Jarred. Good people over there. He showed me all over the area and access points for multiple rivers. Tell him Charles from Texas recommended...
