Re: Masters of the Salt

Hell Ditz, I'll bet you remember when Tyrannosaurus Rex was middle-aged and still active.

Re: We skipped Spring here in the Rogue River Valley.

If you don't know the difference between climate and weather, maybe you ought to ask someone to explain it to you.

Re: First dumb question ...

Happy I could help out. Better to have it happen here than out on the water where you could stumble into a nest of merciless fly rod elitists lying in wait to pounce on any hapless rookie who falls...

Re: First dumb question ...

Lesson #1:

NEVER refer to a fly rod as a "pole." The term "pole" describes the structure that is employed in displaying flags, and also describes the denizens of Warsaw and its surrounding...

Re: Am I overreacting?

I don't know I could have forgotten to congratulate you on finding such a classy and generous bride. (I'm lucky enough to have one of those too) When I hear what my friends have to go through to get...

Re: Am I overreacting?

I don't think you're overreacting. If it were up to me, I'd just tell BIL that he's either renting his own car or he can plan on doing a lot of hiking - you're not going all the way up there to run a...

Re: Lipping largemouth, am I doing it wrong?

I agree with the others about "bass thumb" being a badge of honor, but don't forget to stick a Band-Aid on it when you get home along with some antibiotic ointment. There are some really nasty...

Re: Nail knot for tippet?

Will, you didn't mention what kind of fishing you do, but for my own purposes, I wouldn't trust a nail knot for much of anything - for the reasons Silver Creek mentioned. If you're fishing trout,...

Re: Casting into the wind

Fichy took the words right out of my mouth. Wind is a huge factor where I fish, and the best solution I've found is a shortened leader and a weighted fly with as little wind resistance as possible....

Re: Wolly Buggers?

I agree 100%. Buggers will take virtually any species of game fish, fresh water or salt. By altering the type of hackle, shape, size, weight and color, they can represent more forage species than any...

Re: What Makes a Great Fly-Shop?

I'm not sure I've ever been in a "great" fly shop. The ones I've visited have ranged from very good to disgraceful. They all seem to have deficiencies of one kind or another, (what doesn't? nobody...

Re: The passing of a real outdoorsman

Please accept my condolences. If there's a Nar-Anon group in your area, checking out a few meetings might be something you'd want to do at some point. Nothing can bring your loved one back, but...

Re: correct reel and rod wt for reds need help pls!

Good Advice above. I'd go with the heaviest rod you feel comfortable casting. There are gonna be situations when you'll wish you had more rod, but damned few when you'll wish you had less. Every rod...

Re: Favorite food on the water

Bottle of water and a can or two of Ensure. Eating is one of those activities that attract fish by the thousands, just like changing flies or visiting the rest room. Not worth the risk.

Re: 10 and 12 wt

All rods are different as are all fisherman. A friend of mine has a 10wt that's a brute to cast (for him anyway) but he has another that he handles no sweat. I've been using a 12wt for striper surf...

Re: Poons!!!

Sounds like you had yourself an epic battle Boz; I'll bet you don't forget that fish any time soon. I'm glad it's warming up somewhere, because it sure isn't in VA. BTW - the grapevine tells me that...
