I met up with an old friend

Due to high runoff, I hadn't been able to fish my "home water" (nevermind that it's a whole day's drive away) since April. This weekend, I finally made it out there for a few days.

Despite the...

Re: Teton Wilderness

I assume you're talking about going into the Yellowstone thorofare? The last week in August may be too late for the best fishing, as the spawners that did head up there will likely have headed back...

Re: Rods you regret buying...

I built a Gatti rod about 3 years ago that I loved, until the tip section snapped fighting a fish. It took about 9 months to get the tip replaced due to horrible customer service. I had to...

FS: GoPro Hero3+ Black

I've used it once and decided it wasn't what I wanted. It's practically brand new. $365 shipped anywhere in the lower 48.

Re: best places to fish in southern Wyoming

I guess being in NE Montana has ruined me. I'm jealous of the fact that you've got tons of good water within 2 hours.

Re: How long does it take from your home to the water?

Neither really. I got here before the bulk of the boom, but I've stayed because of it. I'm the engineering manager for Halliburton in Williston. I've been out here almost 5 years, which is the...

Re: How long does it take from your home to the water?

Yeah, I'm in Sidney. I've not fished Ft. Peck. Without a boat (until just recently when I got a single-man pontoon), it didn't hold much appeal to drive 3 hours to fish from the shore.

Re: How long does it take from your home to the water?

I'm in NE Montana. There's not much water here period, much less trout water. It's 4.5 hours to the Bighorn, 5 hours to the Lewistown waters, 5+ hours to the Beartooths.

Re: Wood flybox contest Give-away!

Assuming 44 lb/cf for the wood (may be high for the Walnut, but it's close enough), 3"x5"x1" times an estimated 0.60 factor to account for the hollow center (I'm too lazy to do the real math). The...

Re: Jackson Hole - July 4 weekend

I just flew over Jackson hole. Most of the tributary rivers (Gros Ventre, Pacific Creek, Buffalo Fork) were looking a little off color, but not too terrible. And they generally weren't too high. I...

Re: Teton Wilderness - Yellowstone River and Thorofare Creek

There is still 26" of snow on Two Ocean Plateau. The snow has been melting in a hurry the last month, but there's still a fair amount up there. Just something to keep in mind.

Here's an aerial...

Re: Bob Marshall-Early July

Like he said, anything will work. I'm currently tying for a Bob Marshall trip in late July, and I'm mostly tying humpies in 12-14s, caddis in 12-16s, sofa pillows in 6-8s, and other big attractors. ...
