Thats a unique use of an o-scope probe :D Or multimeter clip?

Yea, that is a jazzed up Mickey Finn. Mine aren't nearly that well done.

Short marabou tails?

Im wondering what you all do for smaller flies that have marabou tails. Id like to be as efficient as I can with the feathers and not waste too much just using the tips and tossing the rest. Has...

TFO reels? BVK?

Just curious what others think of the TFO reels. Do you have any experience with them? I am eyeballing the BVK for a 10wt. I did a search here and was not able to find much on TFO reels. Maybe that...

Re: Horsepower rods - thoughts? Jerking steelhead in.

If I need to get a fly down I just add a bit of lead to the tippet/leader. I've been doing that with my 6wt with big streamers and even eggs/nymphs every now and then. It seems to work OK, though...

Re: Horsepower rods - thoughts? Jerking steelhead in.

Stream size - 5ft wide to the openings on the Great Lakes. Generally, stream widths are 20-40ft. Big fish could be 30-40" - Steelhead and Salmon.

Im also trying to cover large warm water species...

Re: Horsepower rods - thoughts? Jerking steelhead in.

I stopped by a fly shop today and got to talking to one of the guys there. I asked him about the Orvis Access going out and he said there was a new series coming, but it sounds like it is going to be...

Re: Horsepower rods - thoughts? Jerking steelhead in.

Thanks for the link. That was an interesting read. My fishing buddy has been fishing a center pin rod, 10ft, for drifting weighted flies and spawn sacks. I can see where the longer length would be...

Re: Mad River fall report

I am trying to remember the river here, but I usually fished between Lippincott and the bend at Upper Valley Pike. If I recall correctly there is a canoe rental place just up stream from there where...

Re: Flyline age?

I had a regular trout line on my 6wt rod from when I got it back around 2002. I replaced it about 3 years ago. So that is about 9 years. The line sure had seen some abuse - all the early learning...

Re: Mad River fall report

Dont forget all the kayak'ers with stereos blasting smoking doobies.

Boy was that a reality check... So much for a peaceful saturday enjoying the stream and the wildlife.

That all aside, I...

Horsepower rods - thoughts? Jerking steelhead in.

I have been using a 6wt rod since I really started flyfishing (about 13-14 years ago). In the past couple years I bought a 4wt rod and at the same time I put a real nice weight forward line on the...

Broken off rod tip - repairing?

I have been trying to figure out what to do with a broken off rod tip here to get the rod back fishing.

My first idea was/is to clean up the break a bit and join the tip back on the rod with a...

Re: Marabou streamer on 2/0 hooks - how much?

That is a thought.

The last one I made (pictures in my last post) I used a lot more deer hair than I did before. The hard part is trying to get it all on the hook.

The marabou is tied in on...

Re: Marabou streamer on 2/0 hooks - how much?

Here are the pictures.

I think the flexament on the meat head made the hairs pack together instead of flair out like normal. Oh well. The rest of it I am happy with. I am curious to see if I hit...

Re: Marabou streamer on 2/0 hooks - how much?

I tied up another streamer this evening. It is drying on the vice. I coated the deer hair meat head with daves flexament. My hope is it soaked in to the wraps around the shank to secure it all...

Re: 130 mph Honda Lawn Mower

There is no mention of it having a mower deck or its grass cutting ability. It just looks like a chassis/body in the shape of a lawn tractor. A "lawnmower" better cut grass, otherwise it's a total...

Re: recommendation for an 8wt rod?

Something you haven't asked about is line. I think this is as important, if not more so, than the rod and reel selection. The reel essentially holds the line, but if you get a big fish on there you...

Re: Taking off for a day trip - gear?

Yep, I got the handheld radio in.

Looking at the weather there is a line of storms just to the north of us here (Ohio) - part of a cold front. It is moving mostly east, but as the cold front...

Taking off for a day trip - gear?

I am going to make my first trek of the year to a local trout stream tomorrow. I started fishing it last Fall and once the weather got cold last Winter I never made it back.

Looking at the flow...

Re: Small stream/backpacking rod?

Thanks for all the replies. That gives me some material to go off of.

I really like my 4wt Access. Before I got it I used my 6wt TLS for everything - with a WF trout line. When I got the 4wt...

Re: Marabou streamer on 2/0 hooks - how much?

Thanks for the replies.

I got the new version out this morning with the weight and more feathers. I like it. The fly stays thicker in the water and it does not look like the shape is off much. The...

Small stream/backpacking rod?

I have been looking around at lighter weight rods for about 2 years now. I added an 8'6" 4wt Orvis Access to my line up last year. The thought process on it was after casting everything down to a 2wt...

Re: Marabou streamer on 2/0 hooks - how much?

I will try and get some pictures in the next couple days.

I figured I'd go ahead and tie up another and see how it went. This time I used about 6 feathers per hook. This looks like it will bulk...

Marabou streamer on 2/0 hooks - how much?

I am tying some streamers on 2/0 B10S hooks after a pattern I started tying on size 2 B10S hooks with Zonker Strips (rabbit fur strips) and a deer hair meat head but subbing Maribou instead of the...
