Re: rings or micro swivel ???

If I'm not mistaken, line twist has more to do with using the wrong size tippet than anything else. 5x on a big bugger or some other fly with some weight is a recipe for curls even Shirley Temple...

Re: Asheville, Friday and Saturday Afternoon 11/7-8

I can't recommend any water, but if you head up on Thursday evening, you should hit up Highland Brewing Company for a pretty cool film screening:...

Re: Got some new used glass today!

Sierra Trading Post had some really good deals on chest waders. Sign up for their email list and they send out coupons every day making the prices even better.

Re: Fly gear that should cost double or more?

I'm glad you were able to get ahold of someone in the know at Redington and don't have to dump a ton of money on trial and error.

I'll never understand why they don't just label the rod a 6wt when...

Re: Fly Line Problem

Depending in the cleaner you're using the solvents could be having a negative affect on your lines lifespan. I clean mine once a season and have yet to see cracking in any of my lines...

Re: Narrowed to three rods, does it matter?

Buy whichever feels best and ignore anyone who criticizes your decision because your rod isn't "X" brand. $20 in the scheme of things isn't much, and if the TFO speaks to you, get it and enjoy it!

Re: Fly gear that should cost double or more?

Well all hopes aside, I can just about guarantee it'll need a 6, possibly a 6.5.

If you really want a 5 and already have a line, Cabela's does have the CT on sale for $75 right now (50% off!!)...

Re: Fly gear that should cost double or more?

If it's anything like the CPX 8wt I had, it is a great rod. However, the CPX is a canon and yours will probably like a 6 or even 6.5wt line. Good find!!

Re: Redington Path vs Classic Trout?

I've fished the CT in the 8'6" 3wt, 9'4wt and 9' 6wt. I would say for the best all around rod I like the 9' 4wt.

Instead of the Rio Mainstream, go down the the classified section of this here...

Re: Looking for guides/new friends in NC

The Ararat river is delayed harvest and isn't far from Winston. It runs right through Mt. Airy.

Re: Shortening Korkers

I think the height issue is probably the primary reason STP has them. I can't imagine there are an abundance of waders out there with an 12" clearance from bootie to gravel guard...

Shortening Korkers

I was plagued last season with a pair of boots that were far too big for my feet and decided to jump on a pair of Korkers KGB wading boots from Sierra Trading Post when I had a coupon making them...

Twisted up a few soft hackles last night... Nothing amazing, but I look forward to fishing them.

Re: Fiberglass joy

Fox, a DT and WF line are extremely similar for the first 30-40 ft (however long your WF head is). It may be that you're roll casting into the running line of your current WF, which would severely...

Re: Glass VS Graphite

I agree. The new Battenkill is a sweet looking, sweet sounding, sweet performing reel. Unless your rod is ridiculously light, I'd go with the biggest size and get as much backing on it as you need so...
