Re: Furled leaders: Are they right for me?

S&S, wow thanks for the write up. I've got a lot of respect for the length you go to constructing a leader! I guess, for my fishing I've not felt my leaders lacking so haven't seen the need to go...

Re: San Juan worm

If you haven't tried it, grab some Squirmy Wormy and tie up the Squirmito - a Dave Hise patter (creator of the Eggi Juan Kenobi)

Re: Strike Indicators .... the good the bad and the ugly !

I agree, I haven't seen the issue. I do keep them on the thicker, butt and middle sections of the leader though. If I'm using a furled leader I'll put a length of thicker tippet before dropping to...

Re: Status Taylor Reel ?

Ghostrider, I think you've made your point. If you do a search for "China" in the forum you'll see this ground has been ploughed a number of times before. A fly fishing forum really isn't the best...

Re: Shapes of cork handles

I love seeing different grip styles. Most of mine end up being versions of traditional patterns. I turn it till it is comfortable. There are some I've free-styled and love them. Cigar is probably...

Re: Strike Indicators .... the good the bad and the ugly !

I've used the biostrike and don't find it floats much weight. End up needing to use a lot of it and figure I might as well use a thingamabobber! I will use it when fishing tiny dries and emergers. ...

Re: Furled leaders: Are they right for me?

I'm a furled leader convert. Use them basically all the time when dry fly fishing and have a Cutthroat nymphing leader (mono) I love. Only time I use knotless tapered are when I want to switch...

Re: How many wulff patterns....

Couldn't resist trying - tied up a humpy using calf for the back and wing :) Not a great picture and proportions aren't perfect, but I'll sure fish it!

Re: Fishing report???

I agree - however, if a river shows up on large, well trafficked fishing reports I don't think there is harm posting them here. Ex. the OP posted about the Big Thompson below the dam, there is...

Re: Fishing report???

There are regional sections. So for the report you mentioned you could post in under the Rocky Mountain section.

Re: What companys are fully made in america?

Cool looking old building! Combine that with an Orvis clearance outlet and I wish it was closer :)

Re: I keep it K.I.S.S.

I think the discussion with Silver raises a good (but not new) point - fish the way you want. There are people who really enjoy the complexity, whether it is following the hatches and variety of...

Re: Otter egg flies

Through their website (http://www.softmilkingegg.com/ORDER-NOW.html) - I've bought the materials there and I think they sell tied flies as well. I'm a huge fan, they've been very effective for me.

Re: Hiking boots

I got a pair of korkers sized to wear without waders. They are good to walk in and great for wading. Not the same as top of the line hiking boots but work for me. You can bring along an extra sole...

Re: Have you ever put a worm on your fly ?

This thread reminded me of this passage from Hemingway's Big Two Hearted River:

Another hopper poked his face out of the bottle. His antennas wavered. He was getting his front legs out of the...

Re: What companys are fully made in america?

Usually on your rod the cork will have come from Portugal... could see if you could get a synthetic grip or one made from domestic wood / bark (like birch bark) if it is important to avoid Portuguese...

Re: Have you ever put a worm on your fly ?

Yes it does come down to personal choice. As long as it is legal who cares how others fish? Let's not let this turn into an argument

Re: Importance of snow out west?

The snow we got last night in Denver doesn't do much for the rivers come summer - it does help water in the trees I planted last year and move some water downstream. Through the summer I watch the...

Re: Preferred method for trout

My approach is to be open to various methods. I usually fish graphite, anything from my 6'6" 2wt to my 10' 4wt to a 9' 7wt for streamers - depending on conditions and my mood. I enjoy fishing...
