Re: Hidden Treasure

Yeah, the point of the expedition was to find some golden trout. I went in one day and out the next. There were a couple of lakes that I had intel indicating they would hold goldens. One turned...

PM Issues?

Recently I've gotten a couple of email notifications of a private message, but when I follow the link to my PM inbox, they aren't there. It's interesting, because when I do get an actual PM, I don't...

Hidden Treasure

This weekend I took a short trip to try to catch my first golden trout. It started with a 4-mile hike to the lake. This was the "trail" to the lake.

Re: FTB Advisors commercial -- why?

Because going to the effort and expense to film an "honest portrayal of flyfishing" probably has a negative ROI.

Re: Sad commentary on today's society

I'd agree that people assuming the worst in others and expecting others to act/think like them is a sad commentary on today's society.

Re: Addt SW MT Hoot Owl Restrictions

There's a delay between air temperature and water temperature.

Re: Jackson in Sept

When in September? September 1 is vastly different than September 30 in terms of water temp. Where are you fishing? Fishing at 9000' is vastly different than fishing at 6000' in terms of water...

Re: Custom Sage One rod vs. Factory

What the downside to having a custom-built rod? I'm not seeing your dilemma.

Re: Why buy high end?

The main reason is so you can impress your friends.

That's not to say there aren't other reasons, but I'd be willing to bet that's the primary motivation for most high-end gear purchases.

Re: Streamer Fishing Issue

I strongly disagree for two reasons. One, you will be far more likely to break off a fish when you point your rod right at the fish. I often use relatively light tippet when streamer fishing...

Re: Finally some Montana carp

This was far NE Montana. I've seen some guys that fish for them around Billings or over on the western side of the state.

Finally some Montana carp

I haven't gotten any real carp fishing in since I moved here 5 years ago, but I finally got to change that today.

Unfortunately, I didn't hook any of the big ones, but a few little guys were fun....

Re: Trip planning: Conejos, Green/Fontenelle, Wind, Shoshone, Yellowstone?

I'm not so sure. There's not much left in the system, but we're at a higher flow with a later peak than last year when runoff lasted well into mid-July.

Re: Trip planning: Conejos, Green/Fontenelle, Wind, Shoshone, Yellowstone?

I'd look at the latter dates. Rivers are extremely blown out right now, despite the relatively low snowpack this year, and may be just rounding into shape the first week in July.

Re: First Trip to Yellowstone

In late June, the streams you've heard of are going to be high and off-color in that part of the park. Focus on smaller streams draining smaller areas and you should be able to find small...

re: Dillon Montana

The average daily high drops below 40 on November 19 and doesn't get to 40 again until February 23. Average snowfall is fairly low in the valley, around 36-40".

I can't say definitively, since...

Re: First Brookie - A MONSTER!!!!

Possibly; in some populations/waters they never lose their parr marks, retaining them into adulthood.

This guy was a mature fish - one of the largest in the whole stream (seriously).

Re: Bushwacking

I see no reason you couldn't carry your rod holder at least to the river, then stash it, fish, and pick it back up on your way out.
