Re: Scott Radian 9 and a half footers

I am also thinking about a Radian 6 for Montana along with a 5. Right now I'm thinking the 9 footer with a fighting butt would fill the bill from the boat for nymphs and some streamers. I really like...

Re: Sage Aluminum Rod Carriers

This is the one, holds 6 rods as stated up to 9.5' and all my reels. I love this case!

Re: 2 questions about the Circa.

My Circa reminds me a lot of my Winston 8.5 WT but faster and lighter with less swing weight. It really feels almost like a 3 weight in your hand. Casts a Rio Gold smooth as butter. To me the action...

Re: 2 questions about the Circa.

I really love my 589 Circa, but a very specialized rod for under 40 ft dry fly work. Check out George Andersons review of the 589. He really liked it for close in dry fly situations. To me it feels...

Re: Rods you regret buying...

I have to agree with that one. Along with the Bllx 9' 5 weight. The Bllx 6, however, is one of the best rods they ever made.

Interesting, in all these posts Winston is never mentioned.

Re: rod tip position when dead drifting?

The major objective for me is to get the best presentation possible and this means a drag free drift at the right depth for as long as possible. I fuss a lot with details but what ever it takes to...

Re: Galvan T5 vs T6 Best Choice

I own 2 T6s and a T5 and love them! I use the 6s on my 9 ft and 9.5 ft 6 weights and if I was going to use a reel on a 7 I would go with the T8 for better balance. The 6s just seem to balance well...

Re: Sudden urge to tie the bimini . . . ?

Really bad video of how to tie a Bimini . I have tied them for years for salt water but if you are need a loop for your backing etc there are many easier ways to tie a loop in backing etc.

Re: Pulse/recon/nexus/a4

I can tell you the 6 Nexus is one outstanding 6 weight and weights less than 3 ozs. 2.76 oz on my very accurate scale. I have a lot of 6weights that cost more but it's my favorite.

Re: Fighting Butt or Not on 9' 6wt?

I find the fighting butts on my 6 wts very helpful when fighting bigger trout that I often run into in Montana. Without the butt the reel often rubs or catches on clothing and with it the reel is...

Re: Bauer, Galvan and Abel SD

Just got back from 4 days on the Missouri and my Galvans really got a work out. Anyone who says a trout reel doesn't need a smooth drag with no start up torque hasn't even been hooked up to those...

Re: Streamer Rod

Depends on the species but a 7 would be a minimum. I use a 7 or 8 in Montana for big fish. Some salmon species can require a 9. Think about the size of the fish and the size of the streamer.

Great to hear from Seattle from the old days on the Winston forum! I am heading to Montana tomorrow and will have my Staff BIIt along with a mess of other rods. That 4 weight is still the finest...

Re: Pulse/recon/nexus/a4

I would first say I havn't cast the Pulse but the reviews are excellent. I own a 6 weight Nexus along with a bunch of more expensive rods from Sage, Winston and Loomis. The Nexus is one of my...

Re: Fishing with older rods

I started in the 50s with a Shakespeare Wonderod. Gave it away back in the 70s. Found a brand new never been used rod exactly the same as my original on the Internet and grabbed it. Wow have we come...

Re: Indicator rod

I use a 9.5 6 weight BIIx Winson for western nymph fishing on the Mo and Madison among others. It is a great weapon for the job and isn't tiring to fish all day. Guys on the Bighorn love the Sage One...

Re: Anderson's 2016 5wt reel shootout soon to be released. Predictions??

I have a bunch of older Abels that I never use .5s,1s, 2s all the way up to 3Ns and I'm going to sell them all. Just love my large arbor reels.

Re: Anderson's 2016 5wt reel shootout soon to be released. Predictions??

I have used both the Torque 5 and Torque 6 for a few years now after being a big Abel guy for years. Really love the low start up drag system. I am convinced Galvan makes a great product at a fair...
