Re: Opinion on chinese or korean built rods?

I agree with Dean Mt. St. Croix rods are a tremendous value. They are made in Wisconsin and come with a lifetime warranty. I broke the tips on two rods last summer while netting carp. I have one...

Re: Maintaining a journal

There were no personal computers when I started fly fishing. Ball point pens may have just been invented the week before. From the beginning a journal was a part of the experience for me. My...

Re: Broken Rods

Cowger10, glad you got some time on the water. Too bad about the rod. I hope your new section or new rod comes soon and you are back out fishing.

I wonder if the "warranty" on a rod isn't a...

Re: Which Simms boots should I get?

Simms makes great boots. I have an old pair of Freestone boots with felt and a pair with felt and cleats. I have a pair of the G-3's with vibram soles and the Hardbite Star Cleats. I also have a...

Welcome to the Future: a video

This video is not meant to be one bit instructional or helpful--well not helpful in the sense of learning how to fish for carp. It is mostly clips of takes from very visible fish. Watching my own...

Re: Wow Patagonia (new Atom Stealth pack on the way)

I love my Stealth Atom Sling Pack. It holds everything I need when I'm wading, it's out of the way, and it's comfortable to carry. Well, maybe not everything I need--a chair would be nice for...

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

In Washington, the prolific steelhead runs of decades past are virtually gone. Steelhead patterns like the Skykomish Sunrise, the Purple Peril, and the Skunk, probably would have been more...

Re: It's a good thing im not married!!!!

Waterfordcreek, I am easily confused these days as you will readily be able to tell. I get that $1,200 is a lot for a rod and reel and I get the whole evil voice and good voice thing. I myself hear...

Re: Float Tube Fins

My maiden voyage in a float tube was in 1973. There was only one kind of float tube way back then. It was green canvas around an inner tube. You sat very low in the water. Since there was no...

Re: I need a back-up rod. Or do I?

Last week, were I asked the question, "How many more rods do you need?", I would have said, "One".

I bought two rods this past weekend.

Today, were I asked the question, "How many more rods...

Re: simms wader size

I love my Simms waders and boots. My waders are the G3 Guide Stockingfoot model. One of the many things I like about them is the number of sizes they have to accommodate an angler's waist size,...

Dreaming of Warm Summer Days--a short video

When I started this video it was 22 degrees at the Carp Lodge. It was stark and beautiful. When it is cold like that I tie flies and dream of warm summer days fishing for carp on my river.

I enjoyed the video. Erin's writing is superb. Both Erin and Jay have a passion for fly fishing for carp; I do too. Their enthusiasm makes me smile.

Oh, oh, while this next paragraph isn't...

Re: Scent and Feather Flies

I started tying flies in 1972. Back then the quality of natural materials wasn't nearly what it is now. Rooster and hen necks are a great example. There weren't nearly the artificial materials...

I am also a member...
