Re: Tippet rings or perfection loop?

These sorts of threads just prove how non-technical I am as a fisherman.

I've used loop to loops and they work fine. A small barrel swivel works good for nymphing and stripping streamers. It adds...

Re: Fly fishing Colby kansas?

It's definitely warm water. Pitch bass and bluegill flies.

I responded to a similar thread earlier, but I don't know which web forum.

Not sure about Colby itself, but try Sheridan Lake and...

Re: Missouri Trout Fishing

I'm jealous! Looks like a great trip in paradise.

I thought I might get to the Ozarks this summer but it didn't happen.

Re: Starting Setup for Spot Tails and others

Thus is good advice. The starter combos at places like Cabelas and Basspro are both well-regarded. That's another possibility for you.

Re: Backpacking, What flies to take?

A good fly for this is a crackleback. Consider it a variation of the wooly worm, another versatile fly. A griffith's gnat is another one on the same principle.

Cracklebacks are huge in the...

Re: fly fishing near hoxie Kansas

You're right, your listing is in the wrong place--you want to be in lower mid u.s.

That said, here's my thoughts:

I know there's a small municipal lake in Atwood--30 miles north of Colby.

Re: Backpacking, What flies to take?

My thoughts:

With those flies, you could rule the world. You'd certainly do well if you added an ant or maybe some other terrestrials.

The things is--and we flyfisherman sometimes don't want...

Black River in SE Michigan near Port Huron

Tell me about the fish species. I'll be there the first two weeks of August.

My access would likely be either the Port Huron State Game Area or the mouth of the river where it flows into Lake...

Re: If you weren't jealous of me before...

I have been in the area and would have expected it to be relatively flat. Thanks for the word on the terrain

One thing, I'm not getting much info on it for fishing, though it looks to be a...

Re: Whats this lil guy?

It looks like a pale colored hexgenia--at least based on some fly patterns I've seen and pictures. (They're a big one in size). Here's some pics and video link for comparison:

Hexagenia limbata...

Re: If you weren't jealous of me before...

You know, the reason I'll in the area is to attend an annual family reunion camp out.

It does raise the question if all of these sightings were simply a couple of my relatives roaming about...

Re: Do you remeber your first fish on a FLY...?

A redear sunfish on a popper. The cast was actually a disaster; it ended up just barely in the edge of the water and the fish nailed it.

Re: If you weren't jealous of me before...

Absolutely. Gotta remember to use the wrong camera lens or something. Even better, would be some bouncy, disjointed camera footage filmed at the wrong speed. That would be nigh well irrefutable.

Re: If you weren't jealous of me before...

I've been thinking that maybe I ought get some Jack's Link's and see what I can do with them.

Might be a good way to get some really good fur for tying streamer patterns.

Re: How long does it take from your home to the water?

Nearest trout for me are 3-4 hours away. Cost of fuel is an issue, though less of an issue than simple time. That's a long way to go without taking vacation time.

Warmwater is just five minutes...
