Re: Cant find rod?

Congratulations! You won't regret it. (But if you do, you can alway resell the Zenith after the closeout sales are over and recover most or all of your money.)

Re: Cant find rod?

Recon is not Orvis's top of the line offering, but Zenith is Hardy's.

Here's a detailed comparison of more than 2 dozen 5 weight rods. If you click the link for each rod, there are comments by 5...

Re: Cant find rod?

I haven't cast those Access models, but in general, many people prefer 8 1/2' over 9' rods because they can be easier to cast and the extra length of the 9' rod isn't often needed unless you are...

Re: Appropriate reel for my 4-5 wt 7'-9" Bamboo

Go for the Red Truck Diesel then. It borrows the best features of the Hardy Lightweight and Marquis reels, and retails for $200.

Re: What Did You Buy Today?

A dozen #18 PMD emergers, a dozen #22 Trico sparkle duns, and a pack of brown Z-lon, all from the Cabela's bargain cave, for $14 and change.

Re: Soft 6 Weight

They do, and Cabela's has them on sale right now for $89.95. Cabela's is a sponsor of the Fly Fishing North America forum, so there ought to be a link to Cabela's on the forum page somewhere that...

Re: Appropriate reel for my 4-5 wt 7'-9" Bamboo

In terms of a classic look, the Red Truck Diesel from Leland Outfitters would be a nice match. Like the old JW Young reels, it's heavier than the equivalent Hardy or Orvis CFO, so it might balance...

Re: Zenith 8'6'' #4

If you've tried them both, how does the 8 1/2 4 weight Zenith compare with the equivalent Winston GVX?

Re: July 2015 Caption Competition - sponsored by Allen Fly Fishing

They told me jigging works great for shad, but I haven't had a bite all day.

Re: 4 Weight Zenith closeout

The one at Fly Shop Closeouts is the older model with the skeleton reel seat. The newer ones with the wood spacer seem to be going for around $400-450 elsewhere.

Re: Closeout/Sales?

Flyshopcloseouts.com is another good site to check periodically.

It's unusual for products to be discontinued during the summer fishing season when most tackle retailers are doing most of their...

Re: When Your Best Is Deemed "Not Good Enough..."

I only just discovered this thread, and just about everything that I would have wanted to say has already been said. Always remember that you have a lot more fans than critics, Jerry.

Re: Rare New 'ORIGINAL' Teton Classic Fly Reel

If you do sell it, you should be cautious about claiming that it is still under warranty. The company that issued the warranty is no longer in business, and the repair shop that can still do the...

Re: The quintessential 8ft 4 wt?

Morgan himself described the TMF as closer to a 3 1/2 weight than a 4 weight. It might feel better with a DT3 than a WF4 line. And it's got a gentle, slower action that people more accustomed to...

Re: Who makes best salmon reel? Opnion

I have several Lamsons (Velocities and Litepeeds) that have served me well on several salmon trips. Other folks in camp liked their Orvis Mirages. But the last time I went, I also bought an Allen...

I have admired the Umpqua Steamboat packs from afar, but don't really need one and haven't wanted to pay the asking price just to try one out. If they are going to be closed out and discounted soon...

I like 'em all, but H&H, The Fly Shop, and Madison River Fishing Co. are particular favorites. I used to like Bob Marriott's and Dan Bailey's, but haven't received those in recent years. And I will...

You need to convince him to sell one of his office buildings and buy this place. Then let you (and the rest of us) use it when he's too busy to visit.

I got a DD 5000 a couple of weeks ago. I'm not concerned about the drag, it seems more than adequate for trout fishing. I prefer a light drag setting to protect tippets anyway, and I use the...
