Re: Lamson Litespeed 2??

I own 8 Lamson reels including 3 LPs, 2 Radius, 3 Velocity from size 2 to size 4. I also own about 12 other reels. Pfluegers from the late 70's all the way through the latest high end reels. ...

Re: Saltwater reel

Don't use the Okuma SLV in saltwater. I have a couple that I like very much but despite careful cleaning after each use the finish started blistering. I now only use them for salmon fishing. Any...

Re: What you recommend for a 7wt reel?

There are a million choices in that price range. I am a big fan of used reels especially if you have a couple of weeks to wait out a good price. If the reel is not going into salt water (I know you...

Re: Reel Idea...

Tioga (Teton) reels offer the same option of both large arbor and standard arbor on the same frame. Much cheaper than some of the other suggestions mentioned here. You will have to troll the...

Re: Korker Wading Boots

Thanks for all of the replies. While it is true that you can just buy new inserts the two sets that come with the boots are nearly useless unless you can modify them. The rubber is good for hiking...

Korker Wading Boots

I picked up a pair of the Redside boots at the fly fishing show. The boots come with felt and rubber (uncleated). Does anyone know if you can add studs to either? In particular the felt?
I know...

Re: Drag System on Redington AS & AL

I think I answered my own question. I just found exploded views of both reels and it looks like the main difference is arbor size and cosmetics. The drag looks the same.

Drag System on Redington AS & AL

Does anyone know what the difference (if any) of the drag system on these two reels? I know that the AL is a mid arbor design and the AS is not.

I have several Brakewater reels and the drag is...

Re: Valentines Day Gift...

I've never used it but Allen Fly Fishing has a pink reel for $100 ATS series.

Their other reels are nice.

Re: 7wt grips

I really like the look of the half wells as well but I prefer the full wells when casting lots of line. I end up putting fulls on all of my rods down to 6wt. One of the advantages of building your...

Re: 6 wt for bass poppers?

I was simply answering his question. If you find your setup work well with big flies and short casts then by all means use that setup. It has been my experience that when bass fishing out of MY...

Re: 6 wt for bass poppers?

Over line it with a 7wt or 8wt line and you are good to go. I do it all the time. I fish out of a float tube so I never need to make casts longer then about 40'. I use a 8' 6wt preferring the...

Re: Add a fighting butt to a buttless rod?

Assuming you can get the reel seat end cap off (boiling water) the rest is pretty easy. Measure the id of the blank end and add an extension using an old rod piece. Mudhole and lots of other places...

Re: Waterworks Lamson reels - experiences?

Most of these testimonials are interesting but hardly scientific. Much like people who complain about rod company X or Y having rods that "blow up" all the time. I do a lot of salmon and steelhead...

Allen Alpha II Reel

After months of reading all of the reviews and comparisons between the Alpha reels and reels from Lamson and others I finally pulled the trigger and picked a used 9/10 (one of the black/silver)...

Re: great lakes fall steelhead fly/egg patterns suggestions?

I fish the Salmon River in NY. Everyone has their favorite patterns for Steelhead. When I first started I fished egg patterns exclusively but as time went on I switched to stonefly and other...

Re: For SW - 9wt or 10wt

Agreed! The reel just sold for about 110 on ebay so you are essentially getting the rod and everything else for free.

If after a season you want something lighter i am sure you can sell the rod....

Re: For SW - 9wt or 10wt

Last thought on this topic. I want to be clear that just because the rod is older it does not mean it is a poor choice. My favorite rod is a 1983 Orvis 7'11" (711) in 4wt. It is soft and wiggly...

Re: For SW - 9wt or 10wt

I would say this is not a good. Couple of reasons

- I think there was general agreement that the 10wt was kind of heavy for your application. Getting a good price (which I don't think this is)...

Re: For SW - 9wt or 10wt

I fish with both a 7wt and a 9wt here in New England for stripers and blues. Unless it is windy out I have stopped using my 9wt. The 7wt can land anything you are likely to catch from shore or...

Re: Best reel

I agree with about the Breakwater reels except you can EASILY take them completely apart and clean every single component. I do this about once a year. I have extra drag parts and own 4 different...

Re: Best reel

Regarding the cast aluminum reels. I have an Okuma SLV and due to the paint (not anodized ) and cast material the paint finished eventually blistered and developed white powdery corrosion. That reel...

I own (all in larger sizes) :

Lamson Velocity (both current and previous generation 3.0, 3.5)
Albright Tempest (now called Sea Level IV)
Redington Breakwater ( 7/8, 9/10,...

Re: Salmon Spey rod

I fish the Salmon River (NY) quite a bit. I have a couple of the Forecast RX6 13' 8/9 spey blanks. You mentioned the Rainshadown RX7 which is the next step up from what I have. I think the blanks...
